Hey dad,
It´s my birthday! I can only imagine the type of cards you´d pick out. I am 22 years old now & have graduated college. I´ve gotten to work for the Braves the past two summers & I wish you could come see a game. I know you´d absolutely love it & think it´s so cool that I´m working in sports (even though it´s not UNC). Erin & Bizzy constantly tell me that I have your dry sense of humor so thank you because I think i´m a hoot. I hope you´re proud of all of us. I miss & love you so so much

Hey dad,
Looks like Andrea & I had the same idea. This reminds me of the letter Kiersten & I wrote to you in heaven, but now it’s 2022 so we get to type it instead. I’m 21 years old now, which is the same age you were when you passed. Don’t worry though, I don’t have 3 kids and 1 on the way. I graduate college this December & I hope to teach elementary grades afterwards. I wish I could find the UNC shirt you always wore, but I think it was lost in the house fire. I’ll keep looking though just in case. I miss & love you more than anything

Hey dad! Just wanted to tell you a few things. I'm Officially a sophomore this year! Yep, at John Battle too. The school is a little more strict this year but I think it will just take some time to get used to. Mom and I are getting closer which makes me feel better while i'm at home. You are still talked about if you wanted to know. I think about you too, i think about you all the time. Even though you aren't here, you're still the best dad in the entire world. It still hurts that you had to leave so soon but it's okay, I'll see you eventually. I hope you know that I love you and that you are very very missed. Grandmother and granddaddy are doing good, Elijah still goes over there every weekend to stay there with them. Autumn is a teacher now, crazy right? She teaches younger kids even though I think everyone agrees that she should teach a little older but whatever, it's her decision. Kiersten is in college too btw, she is a sophomore too. Shes doing good, i talk to her a lot. Elijah is a junior now, he won't let mom cut his hair even though she wants him to. He likes it long, Kiersten and I think it looks better too. Mom is still working at Arbys, shes really good at it but she hates being a manager. I did tech crew last year, I think Bizzy liked that i did. It was really fun but really stressful, I think it was worth it in the end. All of your daughters have boyfriends at the moment, I'll tell you more about that another day. I'm still friends with all the people i told you about last time, I am closer with Madison. Do you remember her? She was one of my friends from Fairmount, not that you were here for that but still. She is really cool, probably one of my best friends right now, i think you would've loved her. I love her a lot, she always listens to me talk about you, i tell her about you a lot. I wish you could meet all of my friends, they all know about you. Mostly because they always ask why my name is Ethan but that's not the point. I'm doing pretty good btw, better than last year. I still miss you more than anything (well and mamaw). I hope you can see me and are proud of what you see. i love you.

Hey dad, its me Andrea. Its been awhile since you left. I have a lot to catch you up on. So I'm 14 Now, im a freshman in high school. Guess what, im in John battle. Im gonna graduate the same high school you did. Isnt that cool? I really like hoodies, especially oversized ones. I have pretty great friends. There is bonnie, my bestfriend, she was really there for me through mamaws death. There's baylie, she is really sweet, and cares about me a lot. There's Kinsey, she's really funny and loud, but she is there for me when I need her. There's gracie, i hang out with her a lot out of school, we have a lot of fun together. I have more but that would take forever. I love them all so much, I wish you were able to meet them. We just had a family reunion. It was really fun actually. I was 9 last time we had one, I wish you couldve been there. They played a video with a bunch of pictures in it, you were in a few of them. A lot of people cried, I didn't but grandmother did. She said that when she saw you with all of the older dead people that it made her tear up. Its shocking to see you with all of the older people that are gone, but your gone too. I wonder what life wouldve been like with you often. How different would it be? How different would I be? How different would mom be? Would I be happier? Would you and i have an amazing relationship? Would we be close? Would i be closer with mom? Really, how would it be? I know that I'll never find out because, well, your gone. It really hurts knowing that you never met me, and you never saw me. I would like to think that you would be proud of me. Everyone misses you. I know i never got to meet you but i miss you a lot. I know mom misses you too, she might not talk about you a lot but i think its just because it hurts still. I really hope you can see me and know that i miss you. I cant wait until I can finally meet my dad, most of my friends have dad's and talk about them. I know I make jokes about depressing things that happened to me but it really does hurt. Not having my dad hurts a lot. I wish you were here and we were an actual family. Everything has always been so complicated and I feel like with you it wouldnt have been. I miss you more than anything, i love you.

Bobbie-Sue,And kids,We did not know about Ethan's book back when, but since you had it put back on for the kids,I thought we would write and let you all know how very sorry we are,I know you, your self has never stopped loving or missing Ethan, but have had to move on and be strong for your family. But the hurt never goes away,no matter what. And as your Aunt & Uncle we are proud of you!Because it is the hardest thing to even cope, with everyday life. But one day, you will all be reunited in Heaven, and be a whole family once again. If he could see you all,he would be so proud! You always know where we are if you need us.We love you all.God Bless.

Dear Ethan,It has been a long time since you went away, but those of us, who loved you, still miss you as if it was yesterday.
Time is suppose to make things easier but it dont take away the hurt,we all feel. I don't think nothing ever will. But you would be proud of Bobbie Sue, She has come a long way,to be that young and have two tragic times in her life, and she has really done a good job raising your all's kids, They are bueatiful and very polite, good kids. And Ron & Joann, help her and make sure they are always in Church,You would be so proud of all of them.I'll never forget the good ole times, when you and Bobbie used to walk to my trailor, and when we used to clean house,or mow the yard,I sure do miss you,But I know you and my Timmy are probably up there in Heaven riding motor-cycles or something fun, just waiting on us to get there! We miss and love you as always, Til we meet again one day,God Bless.

May God keep you in His care and give the comfort, peace, and grace that only He can. I live up the street from where you guys used to live on Barker Ln. I remember Ethan and Evan along with Chris playing basketball in the driveway and it seems like only yesterday. We never know what is going to happen in our lives, that is why it is important to have God to be able to turn to during our trials and sorrows because He understands. I'll keep you in my prayers and am deeply saddened for your loss. God bless and keep you under the shelter of His wings.

Dear Joann, Ron, and Family,

Firstly, be assured of our prayers and know that God is not surprised by this event.
Secondly, know that we love you as if it were yesterday and we were all still at Calvary Baptist and you all were still livng beside Jim and Pam.
And lastly, it won't be long now until our glorious Lord comes back and we are all reunited with those we love.

There are no words to express the sadness at such a loss. I want you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers during this time.

Dean Hawkins

November 12, 2006

Dear Family and Friends,

I'm still in shock to hear about Ethan. My prayers go out to his wife Bobbie Sue, his children, his parents, his sisters, and brother.

Ethan was such a blessing to have in my life and it was a privelege to be his youth pastor. We shared a lot of laughs together and had a lot of fun at places like Taco Bell. Along with the fun we had together, I've also never had a student who would call and ask me to take him out "visiting" other students on such a regular basis as much as Ethan.

The peace for me in all of this is in knowing that we'll be together in Heaven for eternity because of our personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

May the Lord give you a peace that passes understanding as you turn to Him during this tragic loss.

Your brother and friend in Christ,
Dean G. Hawkins

Tnere are no words to express the sorrow being felt at this time by Ethan's Family. Comfort & Healing can come only from God. We do not know why God chooses to let happen what happens, all we can be sure of is that God is always in control and knows what is best. There will be a time of mourning & sadness, Jesus is weeping with you over your loss. Turn to God for comfort and he will reach out his arms & hold you while you weep.
