Dear Steven, Clifford, Eric, and families,
Yezdi and I were very sad to hear, just today, of Ethel's passing - we have been away in Connecticut with our new grandson and in fact I had been with our daughter Sabrina and family for over 4 months. We returned very late on Sunday night (March 11th) and therefore missed the Shiva.
Ethel was truly an extraordinary lady - independent, feisty, truly kind, cosmopolitan and had a genuine love of learning.
I remember when we first moved into this neighbourhood in June of 1982, that she was the first (possibly the only) neighbour to visit us, with one of her famous apple cakes.
Despite the difference in our ages,we soon became friends who met quite often for dinner - they loved Indian food!!
We have great memories of those days and of the legendary chess games played by Henry and Yezdi. When I was pregnant with Sabrina, Henry and she would take me to the Donalda Club for long walks.
As life became hectic, with the arrival of our children, we still kept in touch when we could, and by this time, she shared special stories about her grandchildren. Ethel always wanted news of our daughters and the last time I saw her was on Sabrina's wedding day in May 2015, when she happened to be walking by our home, with Steven, as Sabrina and Yezdi were leaving for the Church.
We will celebrate her amazing life and always remember her and Henry with great fondness.
R.I.P. dear Ethel.
Our sincere condolences.

Dear Steve and Wendy and family, the news of Etehl's passing just reached me today. I am so sorry for your loss. What a treasure she was and will remain for all who knew her. I was delighted to be her 'around the corner' neighbour, having met her over the past five years, and it was a thrill to be at her 90th birthday celebration and hear then about all her amazing accomplishments and tenacity. May all memories of her be joyful ones. Sincerely, Cheryl Shuster

Dear Steve, Wendy and the Cole family,
Please accept our sincere condolences on Ethel's passing. She truly was a remarkable woman, a force of nature. I last saw her this winter leaving the locker room at Donalda after her work out (not mine). She always had a smile on her face. I'll never forget how touched she was last year to be recognized at the Tennis Appreciation Breakfast. I know she will be missed by all who knew her.

Dear Wendy and Steve and family,
I'm so sorry to hear about Ethel's passing. I first met her at York Racquets when she was 70 and I was learning to play tennis. She asked if I wanted to play with her and she quickly showed me she could be a killer competitor and a lady at the same time. She really was just so lovely. I know she'll be missed and I hope her memory will bring you joy and peace. Thinking of you. Janice

Ethel was truly beautiful inside and outside. She was always smiling, and an inspiration to all with energy and constant activity. She will be tremendously missed at the Donalda Club. My sincere condolences to Ethel's family.

We were lucky to have known Ethel for the 34 years we were across-the-street neighbours and at Donalda - a warm, interested and interesting woman - our own energizer bunny! She will be sadly missed by family and friends. We send our condolences to you all.

Dear Steve, Wendy, Noah, Heather, Luke and Alex,
Neil and I were very saddened to hear that Ethel passed away today. She was a remarkable person and we admired her greatly. To me, she was a kind friend, a gracious but fiercely competitive tennis opponent, someone who encouraged my art, a woman of independent spirit - and always a lady.
She was an example to us. We so enjoyed her zest for life. How lucky you were to have benefitted from her wisdom for so long.
We are thinking of you all and sending our love and
deepest sympathy.
Love,
Marie and Neil
