Ethel L. Dethmann

CLINTON — Ethel L. Dethmann, age 94, of Clinton, died Monday Oct. 12, 2009, at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held Friday 10:30 a.m. at Elvira Zion Lutheran Church in Elvira. Visitation will be held Thursday 4 to 7 p.m. at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be at Center Grove Cemetery near Bryant. Casket bearers will be John Prins, Ray Stuedemann, Leroy Andresen, Delbert Geffers, Douglas Warner, Virtus Meyermann. Ethel was born on July 10, 1915, in Sterling, IA, the daughter of Otto and Amy (Taplin) Bruhn. She graduated from Miles High School in 1933 where she was salutatorian of her class. She married LeRoy Dethmann on Sept. 25, 1936, in Clinton; he died in 1987. Ethel was a homemaker, where she enjoyed cooking and baking. She was a member of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed putting together puzzles, gardening, flowers and birds. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Ethel is survived by her daughter, Ruth (Les) Prins of Fulton, IL; a son, Donald (Bonnie) Dethmann of Clinton; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
