Ethel Handle was born on January 30th, 1939 in Barber, OK, the daughter of Ed and Cartayah "Aggie" (Chunestudy) Handle. Ethel was raised in a loving home with seven brothers and sisters. She attended school at Seneca and Wyandotte. She worked at Greenleaf Nursery as a botanical assistant. Whenever she wasn't working, she enjoyed working in her flower gardens and yard. You could find her in the house behind the ironing board or better yet, in the kitchen making her wonderful biscuits, chicken and dumplings, and frybread. There was nothing as relaxing as a drive in the country side after a hard days work. The family was the heart and soul of Ethel's world. She loved her husband Robert and her five children, Debra, Sherry, Carmelita, Sophia, and DeWayne. She was as honest and candid as the day was long, blessed with a sense of humor and a way with a good story. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joy of her life and a source of great pride. As much as she adored her family and all the special times they shared together, her health began to fail and Ethel passed from this life into the next on June 20th, 2013 at Tulsa, OK with her family at her side. She was 74 years old. Her beautiful smile and loving arms will be missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, and all those lucky enough to call her friend.
She is preceded in death by her mother Aggie (Chunestudy) Handle, her father Ed Handle, one son, DeWayne Grimmett, sisters Allene Christie, Minnie Jumper, Edna Handle, and Nannie Hooper, and two brothers, Dick Handle and Levi Handle.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Robert Russell of the home in Westville, OK, four daughters, Debra Grimmett of Vian, OK, Sherry England of Stilwell, OK, Carmelita Brown of Tahlequah, OK, and Sophia England of Westville, OK. She leaves one brother, James Handle of Bartlesville, OK. Her legacy lives on in her 16 beloved grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
