Ethel Pippin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 9 to Feb. 11, 2011.
Ethel S. Pippin BRISTOL, Va. Ethel S. Pippin, 90, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at her home. She was born in Lebanon, Va., on Oct. 27, 1920, to the late M.D. Smith Sr. and Alta C. Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Talbert T. Pippin; brothers, M.D. Smith Jr., Calvin C. Smith, Gaines E. Smith, and Lloyd R. Smith. She loved her family, her friends, NASCAR, (especially Jeff Gordon), the Gaithers, and working in the yard. She had a humble heart, was content her whole life, and always put others' needs before her own. She was a longtime member of Scenic Park Baptist Church where she enjoyed working in the nursery and Bible school with the children whom she dearly loved. She is survived by one daughter, Nancy C. Pippin of the home; brothers, Fred H. Smith, and Billy Joe Smith, both of Lebanon; sisters, Pauline Williams of Vinton, Va., and Rosa Lee Elmore of Princeton, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of Southwest Virginia, Naomi Barrett, Louise Slone, Lisa Cregger, Tina Booher, and Dr. John Turski; the nursing staff and CNA's on Second Floor at NHC Bristol Virginia, Dr. Melvin Heiman, Dr. Fred Greear, and especially Dr. Jonathan Swank and Nurse Diane Wise. The family would like to express special thanks to Kelly Cassidy and Brenda Lundy Lester for their love, care and friendship. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Memorial with family and friends will be at a later date.
