Ethel Ponder Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 26, 2025.
Ethel Louise Blue Ponder at the age of 75, left us with the legacy that is as vibrant, loving and knowledgeable, as she was in life. Her life was a testament to the power of faith and conviction. She worked alongside civil rights leader John Lewis, served as the director of the Red Cross, and shared her gift of music as an accomplished singer. Her passion for knowledge led her to earn her master's degree in English and to become a dedicated liberian. Ethel even ran for city council, always striving to make a difference in the world around her. Ethel had an unwavering belief in doing what is right. "Stand for something or you will fall for anything," she would say, encouraging us to find strength within ourselves and to never compromise on our values. Ethel's greatest achievement was perhaps the love and insight she imparted to others. She had a unique ability to speak her mind, offering joy, wisdom and laughter. Her presence was a gift to us all and her absent leaves a void that cannot be filled. Ethel was a pround mother, grandmother, great-grandmother Always boasting about the accomplishments of her grandkids. She was a beloved aunt and sister and so much more to all of us who had the privilege of knowing her... Thank you for teaching us to embrace the joy, laughter and knowledge you generously provided. We love you Momma, and please continue to watch over us. You will be deeply be missed...
