ABINGDON, Va. – Ethel Leona Rutherford, age 83, a resident of Abingdon, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was born in West Virginia, a daughter of the late Elbert Dixon and Faye Sells Dixon. She was a former employee of Old Dominion Box Co.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray Goad; son, Gene Goad; three brothers, Bill Dixon, Matthew Dixon and Monroe Dixon; and one sister, Helen Morris.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Wayne Rutherford of the home; one daughter, Betty Martin of Lexington, N.C.; two sons, Jimmy Goad and wife Connie of Abingdon and Wilson Goad and wife Diane of Abingdon; two grandchildren, Michael Goad and Robin Smith; one sister, Lucy Leonard of Kingsport; one brother, John Dixon of Clear Brook, Va.; three great-grandchildren; and two special brothers-in-law, Paul Rutherford and Tommy Rutherford.
Funeral services for Ethel Rutherford will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2009, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until time of service on Monday. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
