EUFROCINA "NINA" AVILA GRANADOS WESLACO - Eufrocina "Nina" Avila Granados, 83, passed away on 11/21/14 in her home surrounded by her loving family and Father Francisco Solis, her parish priest. She was born on May 29, 1931 in Velardenia, Durango in Mexico to Apolonio and Amada Avila. She grew up in the state of Durango until her youth when she and her faithful lifelong partner and sister, Reyna, relocated to Torreon, Coahuila. Nina and Reyna immigrated to the United States in the early 1950's and initially lived in Mission, TX and came to live in Weslaco, TX a few years later. She remained in Weslaco from then on, until the end of her fruitful and full life. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Parish for over 60 years and was a member of the Sociedad de la Medalla Milagrosa for many years. She lived a full life, raising 3 children and modeling an unwavering faith, a generous and warm heart and an exemplary work ethic. She retired from employment with Weslaco ISD in 1996 and was also employed with Dr. Armando Cuellar at "La Carmela", assisting with birthing of many infants. She also owned and successfully operated "Tommy's Drive-In" for several years in the 60's. Nina was a loving, dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed and remembered. She is survived by her 3 children, Yolanda Mora (David Sr.), Hilda Irene Granados-Hooten (Steve) and Tomas Granados (Leah), her 8 grandchildren, Priscilla Canales (Pete), David Mora (Melanie), Armando Mora (Vanessa), Melissa Rodriguez (Ezekiel), Elizabeth Longoria (Daniel), Roxanne Serna, Marisa Granados and Analise Granados. She was also a very loving and dedicated great-grandmother to Allyson, Nicholas, Christopher, Matthew, Victoria, Paul, Carlie, Zion, Patrick, Noah, Phoebe, Malachi, Matai, and Madelyn. Mrs. Granados was preceded in death by her husband, Refugio "Cuco Granados, her loving sister, Reynalda "Reyna" Montoya and her older brother, Porfirio Avila, and her parents. She is survived by her sister, Carmen Mujica and her brother, Jose Luis Avila. The family is grateful for the kind and compassionate care provided by Ms. Dinora Aguilar, Ms. Maria Mujica, her physician, Dr. Daniel Farray and his staff at Texas Oncology. Pallbearers are David Mora, Sr., David Mora, Jr., Rey Mujica, Leonardo Perez, Steve Hooten, and Daniel Longoria. Honorary pallbearers are Matthew and Noah Calderon. Rosary will be held at Hawkins Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 24, 2014 at 7pm, with viewing on Tuesday starting at 10am. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2014 at 2 p.m. St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with burial at Highland Memorial Park, both in Weslaco, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Weslaco, TX.
