MT. JULIET, Tenn. — Eugene Joseph Carrington, 67, of Mt. Juliet, passed away Monday, April 6, 2009 at Summit Hospital.
Gene "Bear" Carrington was born in Bradford, where he attended school and received a football scholarship to Boston College. His proudest accomplishment was his life long love and commitment to the USMC. He served proudly and bravely in Vietnam. His football career extended to the Quantico Marines Team. In his later life he was instrumental in starting a Marine Corp Quantico Athletics of the Sixties, Inc. Throughout his life he was a Marine's Marine.
Gene leaves his wife of 40 years, Margaret Booth Carrington; one son, Thomas James Holden Carrington of Antioch; one daughter, Sarah Robinson House and her husband Vince Edward House; and his darling granddaughter and the love of his life, Margaret Rose House - "Maggie". He will be greatly missed by his many friends and mostly by his family.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be Thursday, April 9, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Friday, April 10, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, 188 Thompson Lane, by Rev. Joseph Breen, with visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Edward Catholic School.

As one of Gene's Boston College teammates, I was very saddened to read of "THE BEAR'S" demise.I can still picture that"boyish" smile of his. I extend my deepest sympathies to the entire Carrington family.

Margie, Bill, and Michael, I am so sorry to hear about "Bear".
I'm sure he didn't go by "peewee" in the corps. I remember growing up with him fondly and he always made a point to try to see me when he was in Bradford. just a gentle giant of a man. Bill Perrone
