Eugene Talmadge Coodey

January 7, 1933 January 28, 2025

Eugene Talmadge Coodey passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, in Roseville, California, surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was 92 years old. Born on January 7, 1933, in Porum, Oklahoma, to Dewitt and Ava Coodey, Eugene lived a full and meaningful life. He was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation and the third oldest of eight siblings.

During the Dust Bowl, Eugene's family relocated to California, where he was raised in Shafter. He attended Shafter High School, a tradition later followed by his children, Kim and Terry. Eugene had a passion for working on cars and was an avid racer at Famoso Raceway. It was in Shafter that he met the love of his life, Dona, with whom he built a beautiful life and shared countless special memories.

Eugene spent much of his career in the oil industry, working in the oil fields before retiring from Shell Oil. He loved traveling and camping with his family, making lasting memories in some of his favorite destinations, including Morro Bay, Yellowstone, and Yosemite. After retiring, he and Dona settled on five beautiful acres in Georgetown, California, where they enjoyed a peaceful life together. In retirement, Eugene also became a skilled bowler and was a beloved and active member of the Volcanoville community, always willing to lend a helping hand and share a story with friends and neighbors. Later, he and Dona moved to Loomis, California, to be closer to family.

Eugene is survived by his devoted wife, Dona; daughter Kim Stowell and her husband, Matt; son Terry Coodey; and granddaughter Alexandra Stowell. He is also survived by his sisters, Shirley Steenbergen (husband Aaron), Patricia Campbell (husband Jack), and Mary, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Eugene will be remembered as a kind, humble man who touched the lives of everyone he met. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Service will be held on May 31, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Shafter Memorial Park.
