Eugene Pope Obituary

SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. - Dr. Eugene Jerome "Jack" Pope, DVM, passed away Aug. 18, 2008, at the age of 88.
Dr. Pope was born Dec. 25, 1919, and grew up in southeastern Virginia. He received his doctorate degree from Auburn University Veterinary School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps in World War II as a first lieutenant. After serving the Norfolk community in the practice of veterinary medicine for more than 40 years, he retired from his practice at the Carpenter Pope Veterinary Clinic in 1990. Earlier in his career he had been the director of Norfolk City Veterinarian Services. He was also an honor roll member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jessie E. Pope; two sons, Jerry and his partner Jeffery Smith of Englewood, Fla., Jim and his wife Ellen with three grandchildren Christine, Jennifer and Brenton of Palmetto, Fla. He is also survived by his brother, William M. Pope of Norfolk.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Sun City Center United Methodist Church Chapel. Burial will be at Bushnell National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to a charity of choice in Jack’s name. Arrangements by Sun City Center Funeral Home, Sun City Center, Fla., (813) 634-9900.

I am sorry for your lost. I use to work with Dr Pope at Dog and Cat Hospital about 28 years ago. I thought the world of him.
