EUGENE WHALEN Obituary
Of Pittsburgh, on Monday, October 23, 2017. Beloved husband of Doretta M. (Lonnett) Whalen; son of the late William and Blanche Whalen; stepfather of Sonya (Jon) Williams, Jenna (David) Kent, Eve (Marc) Moura; step-grandfather of Anthony Kent, Vienna, Maeve, and Wes Moura. Eugene was a member and usher at S. S. Simon & Jude Church, retired owner of Whalen Graphics (downtown), and retired graphic designer for various Fortune 500 Companies, and the Catholic diocese of Pittsburgh. Proud native of the South Side where he grew up playing basketball for St. Adalbert's. He was a graduate of the U.S. Army Intelligence School and a proud U.S. Army veteran. Friends welcome Thursday 2-8 p.m., WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, (412-563-2800), 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp., 15220. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. Friday in S. S. Simon & Jude Church. We still have a Gene Whalen original poster design of The Great One, Roberto Clemente, from more than 30 years ago. Gene worked and played with my dad, John Waldron, for many years in Pittsburgh. I remember him as a good guy who was quick with a kind word and artful hand. We just returned from out of town yesterday to learn of his passing. God bless Gene and his surviving family. I'm so sorry to hear of Gene's passing!! He was so kind to Frank and me when we came to the recent concert. Gene went out of his way to speak to us. He was always so kind and will be sadly missed!
