I met Gina and her family in 1983 when I moved upstairs from their store/home. The girls were small and sweet. Gina and John took me under their wings and treated me like family with kindness and joy. We shared the better part of 3.5 years together. My fondest memory is Gina taking all the leftovers of bread, meats and veges, even from me, and putting it all in a huge pot and cooking it up. She only did this in winter when all the local Greek kitties had no access to tourists sharing their food in the tavernas. We'd go out back behind the apartment buildings. Gina had a big wooden spoon she'd bang on the side of the pot. The grasses would start moving, and here would come all the cats. She'd dole out the food onto the ground in big spoonfuls. She alone kept the vast majority of the feral cats alive through the rather brutally cold winters. Gina is up in Heaven feeding all the local cats right now! I will miss my friend very much!

Gina was one of the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I loved taking walks with her; she would often stop suddenly to point out a tree or a particular plant. She loved nature, animals, and all kinds of crawling insects. Best of all, she always saw the beauty in those around her.
