Dear Eva,
Thank you for the loving, critically pointed and hilarious perspectives on every aspect of life that you shared with me at Beth Jacob and beyond. When I arrived at your service on Monday my first thought was “Where are you? How can you not be here?” But then of course I saw you were present in all of us through our love for you and your life, and our searing grief at your loss. Jennifer, Daniel and Benjamin described who you are with generosity, clarity, honesty and humour – qualities you insisted that they have! – and embraced every second you created with them. Eva, you and your beloved Joe did a good job. Your children are as shining as you always said they were.
You and I became grandmothers two years ago. Kagiso and Motsumi will miss your presence but are bathed in your love for the rest of their lives. Kagiso and Jennifer will raise their little rebel well because of what you and Joe gave them. The courage, generosity, humour and love that you and Joe received from your parents lives on into the next shining generation.
Eva, you are beloved on this earth. Your nourished our souls. Good night, Starshine.
Love
Christina

Ed and I were so sorry to hear of the passing of Eva. We are presently in Israel and learned via email. Our deepest sympathy is extended to the entire family on the loss of a kind, wonderful, sensitive, dedicated woman I have known for over 25 years as part of the Bais Yaakov family. She will be sorely missed.

Dear Douek family,
My deepest sympathies to you on the loss of Eva... I remember mom Douek as a warm, intelligent, beautiful and refined woman, who was terrific to be around whenever I would come over to play with Daniel as a kid, and later as a teenager... My thoughts and prayers are with you...

My deepest sympathies go out to your family at this time. I had the pleasure of working with Eva for 4 years at Beth Jacob. I remember Eva interviewing me for the job at her home when she was pregnant with Benjamin. I knew right then how special this woman was. Eva welcomed me into the JASE family and in those 4 years she taught me a lot about Special Ed. but about myself as well. She will be missed!

We are so sorry for your family's loss. This extraordinary woman will be remembered and cherished by so many people. The love she showed so easily to us at Motsumi's birthday, has always been a wonderful memory for us. She laughed at all of my jokes. I remember the way she sat on the sofa, with Motsumi in her lap, reading lovingly to him. Their bond was so special and so clear to anybody who saw them together. It was obvious how they adored each other.
