Eva Mata (Detjen) Grunzke, age 96, of Wells, MN, died on Monday, July 22, 2019 at Colony Court in Waseca, MN. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 26, 2019 at 2 PM at St. Paul's United Church of Christ Church, Minnesota Lake Twp, Faribault Co., with Pastor Joy Bruder officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:30 PM on Friday at the church. Interment will be at St. Paul's Church of Christ Cemetery. Eva was born December 11, 1922 in Mapleton, MN, the daughter of John and Minnie (Hardtke) Detjen. As a young girl she worked as a nanny and housekeeper. After marrying Howard Grunzke on January 7, 1943 in Mapleton, Eva was a housewife when the kids were young and helped milk cows on the farm. Later Eva worked as a nurse's aide at Parkview Care Center in Wells for many years. She loved to fish and play cards. She especially enjoyed "Farkle", a dice game, because that was her favorite. Eva enjoyed dancing to Howard's band and singing in the church choir. Eva cherished her family and loved spending time with each of them. Eva is survived by her children: Fay (Stan) Kohnert of LeCenter, MN, Mildred (Doug) Fredrickson of Mankato, MN, Tierre (Jerry) Schwarz of Spring Valley, MN, Arlene (Neil) Crotty of Owatonna, MN, Tedd (Cindy) Grunzke of Cleveland, MN, and Todd (Rita) Grunzke of Hutchinson, MN; 15 grandchildren: Britt (Kris) Kohnert, Jason (Jennifer) Kohnert, Angelia (Ryan) Smethers, Chad Fredrickson, Jessica (Don) McKee, Greg (Diane) Schwarz, Brian (Hillary) Schwarz, Jennifer (Adam) Koontz, NeGail (Eric) Torborg, Tyler Crotty (Brandon Blake), Jeremy (Aurora) Grunzke, Clinton (Kelly) Grunzke, Jake (Leita) Grunzke, Caleb Grunzke and Nina Grunzke (fiancé Mark Hoekstra); 31 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren. Eva was preceded in death by her daughter Gail Lynn, husband Howard, brothers Fritz and Wilmer and sister Alvina.

I had met Eva at Caleb's graduation party and at Nina's graduation party. She was a kind and gentle hearted lady and I really enjoyed listening to her stories of days gone by. She will be missed by all.

Eva was a shining light to me when I had the opportunity to fill in at St Paul's as Minister. I recall many visits with her and how she always was upbeat and loving to me. I pray for your family and that you will find comfort in knowing that Eva is now in the presence of her loving Lord!

Eva was a beautiful and sweet great aunt that I have many wonderful memories of! She will truly be missed, but now she will dance with uncle Howard once again! Love you!! Thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.
