Eva Jean Fuqua Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 16 to Mar. 19, 2023.
August 31, 1932 - February 20, 2023 Ft. Worth, TX - Late on the evening of February 20, 2023, Eva Jean Fuqua walked into the waiting arms of our Lord. She was 90 years old. Her Celebration of Life will be at 11 AM at Arborlawn United Methodist Church in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Eva Jean was born on August 31, 1932 on a farm near Poolville, Texas to Willis Brady and Allie Mae Nelson. She grew up on the farm, and graduated from Poolville High School in 1949 where she lettered in basketball for four years and was the team captain. Eva Jean was the Valedictorian of her graduating class. After graduation, she attended Brantley Draughan Business College. Eva Jean was employed at Consolated Vultee Aircraft Corporation now Lockheed-Martin for three years, and also at Harris Methodist for twenty-seven years.

She married the love of her life, Reverend Verne Fuqua on February 15, 1951, and they recently celebrated 72 years together. Wherever Verne was appointed to serve a United Methodist Church, she was a dedicated preacher's wife. She was active in the United Methodist Women in all the churches as well as singing in the choir. She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. Her greatest joy was her family and celebrating holidays together.

She was an outstanding cook and loved making pies which she shared with many members of the churches and her friends. Her chocolate pie was one of the many favorites. She enjoyed playing Forty-Two, Skip-Bo, crocheting baby receiving blankets, working on Word Search Puzzles, and enjoying the flowers in her yard. She was known by her hazel eyes, beautiful white hair which was done every week, and her sweet smile. She radiated her love for the Lord and truly lived her faith.

She was a member of Arborlawn United Methodist Church, as well as Arborlawn United Methodist Women, the Pathfinders Sunday School Class, and Blessings & Stitches group at the church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Nesbert and RD Nelson, and her sister, Quilla Smith. Survivors: in addition to her husband Verne, are her daughter, Sharon Noblit and husband Ray of Longview, Texas, and her son Douglas Fuqua and wife Suzie of Ft. Worth, Texas; as well as her sister-in law Virginia Nelson, of Weatherford, Texas. Grandchildren: Heather Douglass, Carrollton, Texas; Robert Douglass, Ledbetter, Texas; Blake Noblit, Longview, Texas; Glenn Noblit, Longview, Texas; Lindsey Regan and husband Sean, Towaco, New Jersey; and Brandon Fuqua, Ft. Worth, Texas. Great Grandchildren: Lucas Regan, Towaco, New Jersey; Ella Regan, Towaco New Jersey; and Braxton Fuqua, Ft. Worth, Texas. She is also survived by her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Heaven truly gained a beautiful angel who will be forever missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Arborlawn United Methodist Church Foundation or the Music Ministry, 5001 Briarhaven Road, Ft. Worth, Texas, 76109 or a charity of your choice.

I worked with Eva Jean at Harris Hospital. I was a young 18 year old girl. She was such a sweet lady. I am sorry for your loss.

Harris hospital coworkers were the recipients of her great cooking . As a coworker said, she said "she cooked and her husband cleaned up."
What a beautiful marriage and a Christian life they had together. It was my honor to have worked with her, and to be a member of the same church with her for many years.

To her loving family, what a blessing it was to have her by your side for so many years.
