Eva MARKVOORT Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Apr. 3, 2010.

MARKVOORT, Eva Dien Brinefull of love and hope and the colour red, your girl, eva Eva Dien Brine Markvoort ... what a life! She lived passionately, with purpose, and died on Saturday, March 27, 2010. She left a legacy of love and made a difference in the lives of thousands of people both in her personal life and in her online community. Eva's life, almost 26 years long, was defined by her challenges related to cystic fibrosis. She knew how to live for the moment and her magnetic personality drew people in at every turn. Eva took nothing for granted and she had no time for complainers. Her life was full of vibrant moments and she appreciated all the beautiful aspects of her surroundings, constantly adjusting to the limitations presented by her health. Eva filled every room she entered, she engaged herself in the present and she learned to turn the most challenging situations into positive experiences. She was a force! Eva has enriched the lives of her parents, Janet Brine and Bill Markvoort, her siblings Annie and Hunter, her loving extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins, and her dearest core team. Eva's family expresses their gratitude for the tremendous support provided by friends, family, neighbours, colleagues, the medical team, and Eva's online community. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eva's memory to the Vancouver Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be gratefully accepted at www.cfvancouver.ca . All who read this are also encouraged to register as an organ donor at www.transplant.bc.ca . A memorial event will be held on April 30 at Massey Theatre in New Westminster. Eva's family will receive attendees beginning at 2:30 and her Celebration of Love will begin at 4:00 p.m. The greatest thing you will ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return. - Moulin Rouge

Eva,

The LOVE you gave to everyone who crossed your path or read your blog, changed the course of my life. You helped me in a time when I didn't think there was any hope and you have changed me forever. You are a true inspiration and I will always fight admirably for CF and those who have lost their battle with it. May your legacy live on forever sweet angel. Breather easy now...

Some people touch your lives in ways which cannot be described, only experienced. Almost as if God sent them. In this situation, her name was Eva.

Eva was truely a beautiful and inspirational young woman. I just read a part of her story on "65_Redroses". She has reached out and touched so many lives in different ways and will continue to do so, through her lifes story. We all should be thankful that she touched even a small part of each of us and will live on. Thank you Eva.

To Eva's Family, my deepest sympathies.

I do not know Eva. I read Eva's story by chance because I saw her picture and thought, what a beautiful young woman.
I was so moved and inspired that I did as you suggested and signed up on the BC Organ Donor Registry. "All who read this are encouraged...'

One can only admire a life so well lived, with so much love. Eva was obviously surrounded and supported by the love of her family.

I wish you peace.

We were so sorry to hear of your loss. No bond is as great as that between a parent and child. Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you. Please accept our depest sympathies.

Even for those of us who did not have the pleasure of knowing Eva, her courageous approach to living with her burden has been and will remain a tremendous inspiration. I've made my own tribute, and I hope it communicates the admiration I feel

Favourite memories of Eva: cupcake birthday, notes from the triangle, pictures of costumes--fairies, face painting, prom in the 80's--fruit punch with grape freezies in hospital gloves, syringes full of ketchup, clothing swap ("one girl's trash is another girl's treasure"), lists, lists and more lists of opulence like bright skies, hot sand, cool pools, snowball fights, jaki the cat, walls of love, bacon, chili peppers sneezed into sinuses, hope hope hope, love love love, great dresses, great hair, great shoes, coffee, new lap top notes, treasure maps for kids, side walk chalk cities, wings made of coat hangers, annie's up-do in dreads, cross country skiing, listening for the perfect christmas tree, family family family, friends friends, strangers accepted as friends, polite response to rude nurse who thought Eva was a smoker with smoker's cough, appreciation of everything, love of learning, school supplies, smell of paper, amazing vocal mask, living with grace and cf, craft projects, room cleaning insomniac, photos of sunrises from hospital rooms, notes to cf patients, incredible journal artwork (with a vial of her own blood), support and more support, advice and more advice, writer writer writer, artist, activist, puzzle picture poster maker. A time to mourn, a time to live.

To Eva's family, Eva is a truely beautiful person. She was blessed to have such a loving and supportive family and you too were blessed to have Eva as part of your family. I became aware of Eva's blog through the documentary 65 Red Roses she has taught us all to not take anything in life for granted as life is too short for all of us. We will never forget your beautiful Eva! Condolences, Angie from Toronto
