It took me almost a year, but I have to accept what I cannot change "It is what it is". The first dance I had with my big brother almost brought tears to my eyes. It was the best day of my life, my younges brother was married and my oldest brother was there with us. I knew I loved you from the moment I met you...a piece of me that was always missing was put into place. I hope you are watching down on us all and know how much you are missed. If only I had one more day... xoxo

I haven't been able to sign this guest book becuase in my eyes, it is so final.. Evan was more to me than a step-brother... He was a big brother, who taught me how to drive in North Park in his Rabbit and got hoagies with from Roma when we were the only ones at the house. I didn't get to spend much time with Evan the past couple years, but he was, and will always be deep in my heart. I only hope one day my son can live up to his namesake. I know he will because he has an amazing angel looking out for him. I love you and miss you so much.

I had the pleasure of working with Evan at the Powerhouse Gym in Daytona Beach, Florida. Evan was not just my co-worker, he was my friend. Everybody at the gym loved him. He was the best personal trainer that I have encountered in all my years. He always wore a smile and was willing to help anyone. I will miss Evan and pray that his soul is finally at peace.

So sorry to hear this news. I swam with Evan. He was the sweetest, kindest, most amazing swimmer on the team. We all loved Evan and still do. Please find some peace in his.

Evan was my swimming coach when I was younger. I remember the first time I had a swim meet, I was so nervous but he taught me everything that I needed to know and made me feel so confident. I remember one of my events was a backstroke event, and I hit the wall with my head so hard. I felt so embarrassed and stupid but he reassured me and made a joke out of it. I also remember that the first time I tried to do the butterfly, I was so frustrated because I had no idea how to do it and I looked like I was drowning. I remember that he kept telling me to just keep trying and then I eventually got it. He taught me so much and I was excited to go to practice everyday to learn more from him. Then when they said he was leaving in 2005, I remember how saddened I was. He was the greatest teacher that I could have ever asked for. Evan, thank you so much for everything. You will be missed. R.I.P.

I am very sorry to hear of Evan's passing. Evan taught me so much as a young swimmer with ANSC, and his lessons are those I try to convey to the young swimmers I coach now. Through his coaching he touched many lives, and may that knowledge keep you always. Thank you Evan for the memories and lessons, may you rest in peace.

My thoughts and prayers are with Evan's family. I have memories of Evan from early swimming days. I swam for Pitt when Evan swam for NA. I remember when he went by EZ Smith in the heat sheets, he was usually seeded 1st. He was the coolest and we always cheered for him. Rest in peace Evan.

My family and I were deeply saddened to hear of Evan's passing. We have many fond memories from when he coached out children at CVSC. He was an excellent coach and made competitive swimming fun. He will be missed by many. Deepest sympathy to all of his friends and family.

I remember when I was in 9th grade. I was in the lunch line and three 10th graders decided to take a run at me and give me a hard time that day. Evan, to my surprise, came over and put an end to the situation by telling the guys to walk away. They listened. I really didn't know Evan at the time, but that was the kind of person he was...My sympathy to all of Evan's Family and Friends.

I knew Evan when I was younger, he taught me many things. He was my swim coach for many years and helped out with my swim team. He was also my brothers little leauge coach. He even took me to the father daughter dance for girl scouts. He taught me how to fish and how to ride a bike with no hands. He was a great person and will be deeply missed.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Evan's passing. I have so many childhood memories that include Evan--from flipturns in the bathtub to colored hair (mine-green, his-orange) to hanging out in the woods or by the creek and ignoring all the whistles, bells and yelps from our parents.....Mr. Sloan, that race was more intense than the men's 4X100 free relay at the '08 Olympics!! Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers--Evan meant so much to so many. I am so sorry for your loss.

It was many years ago that I knew Evan. Evan was very special to me- He was my first love. He was a genuine, decent human being that lit up the room when he entered it. He was a kind and gentle soul who cared for others. Evan was a wonderful friend and he fit right into my huge Italian family. He went on vacations with us, celebrated holidays, and was always a part of my life. The world is a darker place without him. I send my love to his family and fiance. Evan was an incredible man that will always hold a place in my heart.

I have such fond memories of Evan from the days we swam together (especially at long course at North Park). He was a fierce competitor in the water and such a kind and gentle person "on land". Evan had a smile that would melt any girl's heart, and was a fantastic athlete. My deepest sympathies to all of Evan's family and friends.

Evan was my personal trainer for 2 years at Alexander's Athletic Club. He was one of the nicest and caring persons I have ever met. I will dearly miss him along with his beautiful smile and warm eyes. I only wish that he could see what the rest of us saw in him; a truly special person that touched everyone he knew. Evan coached our son during his time as coach of Chartiers Valley Swim Club. As everyone has said it was Evan's bright smile that personified him. Unlike many youth coaches, he could relate to teenage swimmers, was fair and respectful of them and well liked in return. He will be missed.

Evan wrote these words to me: TRUE LOVE KNOWS NO BOUNDRIES, IS LIMITLESS AND IS FOREVER!!He was the most wonderful, loving and giving man. He will have my heart forever. We were to be married August ,2010. No one can ever replace him. He would always go out of his way to help someone. He truly gave of himself. He was one of a kind.

The love of my life forever. Beloved Fiance'

As a young swimmer at ANSC, I revered Evan and liked to think of him as an older brother. Evan helped me overcome my fear of the starting block, assured me I could finish my first butterfly race and authored a nickname that persists today. Small lessons that rippled far beyond the swimming pool. You couldn't wish for a better coach or role model. His influence and infectious smile will always be with me; may he find peace and everyone that has had the pleasure of knowing him find happiness in their memories.

I'm so very sad to hear of the passing of Evan. He was my trainer and a great friend for the several years he lived in Daytona. He was an amazing guy and I always enjoyed the time we spent together. He was a great sounding board with great advice. I wish I could have been there to help him through his difficulties as he helped me with mine. I will truly miss him.

My condolences to your family. I knew Evan as a fellow swimmer during our years in HS and later as a fellow coach while he was at ANSC and I was at MOON. Evan was a fantastic swimmer and coach and an even better person. His passion for swimming and helping kids and his passion for life were models of behavior others aimed for. I have fond memories of times spent with Evan on the pool decks of western Pennsylvania. May God bless and keep you, my friend.

Evan was such a gentle soul and loyal to all of the people in his life. I always respected Evan for his swimming but more importantly I respected him for his kidness to everyone he met. God Bless the Smith family during this time and will keep you in my prayers. I will remember my times with Evan when we swam together at NA but also worked together as lifegaurd and the fun we had those summers.

Thank you Evan for finding us and wanting us to be a part of your life and for being such an important part of ours. I am so glad you and Kristen were there for my wedding day. I will cherish those memories for the rest of my life. I only wish I could have spent more time with you. I love you and I hope you've found some peace.

I grew up just one street over from Evan, attended Espe with him as well as IMS, NAI and NASH. He had a tremendous sense of humor. I remember the various hair designs he sported as part of the swim team all those years. He was always a nice guy. I was very saddened to watch the events of the last week unfold via the media. May your family find peace.

"Our best memory of Evan was at a High School meet against Bethel Park. He and Scott Phillips swam stroke for stroke in the 200 IM, and of course Evan won the race! In our 27 years of attending swim meets it was the most exciting and loudest we ever saw. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all, Evan will be missed."
