Evan Soggin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 18, 2011.
Evan Michael Soggin a 12 year-old of Oakton, Virginia died on July 18th, 2011. Born in Reston Hospital on July 7th, 1999, Evan had a zest for life that encompassed a diverse repertoire of skills. By the age of five, Evan discovered a passion for hockey that spanned the rest of his life. He played on travel teams for the Reston Raiders Hockey Club where he developed tremendous skill and found life long mentors and friends. He played as a goalie for three years, and all other positions for the following three years, with aspirations to attend a hockey boarding high school. A recent graduate of Flint Hill Elementary School, Evan was looking forward with great excitement to begin Thoreau Middle School in the fall where he would be rejoining friends who were a year ahead of him in school. Evan loved music, playing the piano, drums, viola and saxophone in Advanced and Area Band. He also loved drama and made special friends while performing in “Alice in Wonderland with Stage Performance. Evan enjoyed Tae Kwon Do, which fostered his confidence, balance and discipline, and contributed to even greater skill as a hockey player. He loved his horse and was becoming an accomplished equestrian. He travelled extensively, enjoying hiking, skiing, scuba diving, and jet skiing. Evan aspired to become a Navy Seal and studied them in books, sought out interaction with Special Forces, and supported the Wounded Warrior program. What distinguished Evan the most was his love of life, his sensitivity to others, his sense of humor, and a spiritual connection that far exceeded his years. He loved his family and friends and knew he was loved. He will be remembered in our hearts. A Memorial Service to celebrate Evan's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 23rd, 2011 at The Church of the Good Shepherd on 2351 Hunter Mill Rd, Vienna VA. Please dress casually (and not in black), as Evan would want. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a Hockey Scholarship we have set up in Evan's name. He would love the thought of helping other kids get to go to hockey camp, get equipment, and play!
