EVELYN MARIE BRIDGES

EVELYN BRIDGES Obituary

Published by The Chronicle from Dec. 20, 2008 to Jan. 15, 2009.
Evelyn Marie Bridges was born on August 6, 1931 in Aberdeen, WA to Clarence and Beatrice (Meyer) Thayer. Evelyn passed away on December 16, 2008 at Providence Centralia Hospital.
Evelyn moved to the Chehalis area when she was three years old and graduated from Napavine High School. She married Cecil L. Bridges on October 8, 1949. They would have celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary in 2009.
Evelyn was generous to her community by serving on the Napavine Alumni Scholarship Program for 25 years. She also helped plan the Jackson Prairie Reunion, which was one of her many accomplishments.
Evelyn was a wonderful friend to everyone. She never knew a stranger and definitely had the gift of gab! She was a terrific cook and always made enough to feed an army. She enjoyed camping and traveling in their motor home. Evelyn's grandchildren were very special to her and she was given the nickname of Grandma Precious. Evelyn will be missed so much. She was quite the lady.
Lovingly remembering Evelyn are her husband, Cecil, her daughter; Deb (Phil) Schraeder and her son Jim (Ruth) Bridges, all of Chehalis. Also, her grandchildren: Tobi (Mike) Dawes, Chehalis, Kaci (Mike "Biggs") Anchors, Tumwater, and Chad (Janice) Schraeder; Spanaway. Evelyn's great grandchildren also survive her: Colton and McKayla Dawes and Justin Schraeder, as well as a very special daughter, Bonnie "That damn Dec kid" (Buddy) Gust of Chehalis.
A memorial service will be held on Monday January 5, 2008 11:00 AM at Sticklin Funeral Chapel, Centralia. There will be a potluck luncheon immediately following the service, at the Forest Grange on Jackson Hwy. Chehalis.
Upon her request, memorial donations in Evelyn's name may be sent to Children's Hospital, Seattle or to the Napavine Alumni Scholarship Fund, c/o Mary Ann Hassler 1048 Balnc Ct. Chehalis WA 98532.

Dear Cece and Family,
My heart is with you all during this sad time. Evie was such a great person. Her laugh and humor were the greatest. We had a wonderful visit Dec. 6th at Peg's party. She was so proud of her size 6 jeans. She did look great. I'll always have good memories of cooking together, camping together and just running around with her.
My sympathy to you all.

Deb, Jim, Cecil and families, My oh my. I was so saddened to get the news. After just seeing Evelyn at my moms celebration I am wishing now how I should have talked to her longer. I have fond memories of staying at your house and sleeping outside. Also of going camping with you at the beach. I'll treasure our conversations about pickles forever. She was one in a million and I am so greatful to have known her. Allow God to help you thru this difficult time. Love and Prayers, Sandy

My Dearest Debbie & Phil, I am so sorry to hear about Evelyn. The last time I saw her was at Dad's funeral in March. Evelyn was so sweet and entertaining as usual, to me and my husband (the rest of the family too)! I hadn't seen her in years...but somethings never change, she hadn't. She could always make you laugh and bring the best out of everybody. I am so sorry for you and your family's loss, your son Chad also. The Bridges have been a part of my life since I can remember. I remember Sunday drives to Grandma's (99 to Mary's Corner) and stopping by the Dec's, Amrine's and the Bridge's...what wonderful memories. I just want you to know I am thinking of you and my heart is breaking for you, just like mine broke when my Dad died. God bless all of you and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

We were so saddened to learn of Evie's passing. After being neighbors for 36 years it won't be the same without her. Kim just talked to her a few weeks ago. She was always the person we asked when we wanted to know something about the history of our property and the area. Our deepest sympathy to Cec and the whole family.

I met Evelyn under unique circumstances but what a joy to have known her. I believe my teaching her to knit was a failure but she gave it her all! Her stitches would be so tight that you could not even move them!! All though we did not visit except on the street it seems, she was a VERY SPECIAL friend. My Mother also remembers many fun days working with Evelyyn at Berryhills Dime Store in Chehalis. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

My condolences on the loss of a very special lady. We worked together at the State Liquor Control Board many years ago and stayed in touch for many more years. She was a wonderful friend to all, and a caring, fun-loving person. She thought the world of her family. It was such a pleasure to know her.
