Evelyn Shedd Darling 1917 - 2018
SALISBURY CENTER- After a long life that blessed many, Evelyn Shedd Darling, age 100, went to be with her Lord on Friday, January 26, 2018.
Evelyn was born to Jesse and Bessie (Crowell) Shedd of Salisbury Center, NY, on March 22, 1917. "Evie" grew up on the Oakdale Farm and graduated from Dolgeville High School in 1934. She was united in marriage to Corporal Stewart "Bud" Darling on May 31, 1942. Before Stewart's death in 2010, the couple had celebrated 68 years of marriage.
Evelyn was employed as a Credit Manager for the Daniel Green Company and as the Salisbury Town Clerk. In addition to Evelyn's many volunteer roles, she was a long-time member of the Stratford United Methodist Church and Eastern Star. For many years, she served as organist of both the Stratford and Salisbury Center UMCs. Her hobbies included baking, gardening, crocheting and family genealogy.
Evelyn is survived by her children, David and wife, Deborah, of East Aurora, Melaine Paatz and husband, Tom, of Dolgeville, and Donald and wife, Diana Ayers-Darling, of Salisbury Center; a son-in-law, Mike Anfinson, of Colorado; seven grandchildren, Kitt (Becki) Paatz, Jennifer Kuhn, Brian (Kelly) Logel, Wendy (Jim) Seeley, Katie (Carsten) Juchheim, Michael (Jill) Darling and Jake Darling; twelve great-grandchildren, Samantha, Hannah, Kellen, Blake, Brayden, Kira, Celine, Alex, Grace, Isaac, Evan and Aaron; two sisters, Esther Devost and Edythe Darling; one brother-in-law, Gordon Darling; and many special nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Evelyn was predeceased by her daughter, Marilyn, and her sister, Elizabeth Shulenburg. Evelyn's zest for life and joyfulness will be missed by her large extended family and many friends in the community!
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3rd, 2018, at 11 AM at the Stratford United Methodist Church. Rev. Lynn Lockwood, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Spring in the Dolgeville Cemetery. Calling hours are on Friday, February 2, 2018, from 4-7 PM at the Roberts Funeral Home, 3 Faville Avenue, Dolgeville, NY. Auskerada-Maquaes-Rock City Chapter #204 Order of Eastern Star will hold ritualistic services Friday evening at 6:30 PM.
