Evelyn Foster Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 9, 2025.
Prince George - Evelyn Padgett Foster, 95, of Prince George, Virginia died Wednesday, May 7, 2025. Evelyn's closest family and friends referred to her as "Queenie." She was born February 8, 1930, in Surry County and later moved to Prince George, graduating as Valedictorian of Disputanta High School in 1947. Evelyn was a gifted flower and vegetable gardener who affectionately shared her bountiful harvest with family, neighbors and others within the community. She was a charter member of both the Prince George Women's Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Prince George Volunteer Fire Department. For over 40 years, she volunteered with the Prince George County Foodbank. A person of deep faith, Evelyn was formerly a member of Newville United Methodist Church and later served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member and ordained elder at Gregory Memorial Presbyterian Church. She lived out her devotion to Christ through both word and deed. From an early age, Evelyn embraced the values of home economics, self-sacrifice, and a strong work ethic as one of eleven children.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Isham Joseph and Geneva Sheffield Padgett; brothers Marvin, I.J. (Bill), Russell, Earl, and Robert Padgett; sisters Ella Cox, Rosa Bristow, Julia Adams, and Janet Collier; her husband of 45 years, Garland R. Foster Sr.; and a son, Alan S. Foster.

She is survived by a daughter Sandra F. Perkins (Charles); sons G. Reid Foster Jr. (Bonnie) and Kevin S. Foster (Tara); daughter-in-law Robbi H. Foster-all of Prince George; and a brother Donald R. Padgett (Mary Grace) of Surry. Evelyn also leaves behind five grandchildren-Lynn Marie Foster, Randy Foster, Lisa Hartsell, Kevin Foster II, and Madison Foster-and nine great-grandchildren. Additionally, she cherished numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends who were loved as family.

A Service of Witness to the Resurrection and Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary of Gregory Memorial Presbyterian Church, 6300 Courthouse Road, Prince George.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional staff at the Petersburg Home for Ladies for the compassionate care provided to Evelyn.

Memorial contributions may be made to the John Randolph Foundation for designation to The Foster Family Fund (P.O. Box 1606, Hopewell, VA 23860) or Gregory Memorial Presbyterian Church (P.O. Box 182, Prince George, VA 23875).

Our family lost a beautiful soul. Aunt Queenie was deeply loved by so many-Dad adored her, from the moment he was born to the end of his life. She was the last connection to his earliest days and held a special place in all our hearts. I´ll always remember her kindness, her stories, and the love she gave so freely always helping others. I know what an excellent mother she was to all of you. Sending prayers and love to the whole family during this difficult time of grief.

Love,

Mrs. Foster was one of the nicest ladies to ever serve Prince George County. I´ll never forget my last conversation with her on the telephone a few years ago how she had tomatoes on the vine already a month before me. She was bragging lol. My sincerest condolences from my family to hers.

I remember going to Mrs Foster´s to pick up some pears for Aunt Grace(Cibula). She treated me like friend/family, so sweat, told me to come back anytime.
