Memorial Service for Evelyn E. Helvig, age 95, of Fairmont, MN, will be 11:00 am on Friday, February 4, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Those wishing to view a live stream of the service may do so at https://boxcast.tv/view/life-celebration-930903 Inurnment will be in Waverly Church Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 3, at the Lakeview Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Evelyn passed away on Sunday morning, January 30, 2022, at Heartland Senior Living in Truman, MN. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Evelyn Elaine (Garbers) Helvig was born on September 17, 1926, in Fraser Township, Martin County, MN. She was the daughter of Arnold and Lillie (Schultz) Garbers. Evelyn attended Fraser country school and later graduated from Welcome High School in 1945.
On February 11, 1951, Evelyn was united in marriage to Bruce Helvig in Fairmont, MN. The couple resided in Waverly Township until moving to Fairmont when they retired. This union was blessed with two children, Jonathan and Jennifer.
Evelyn spent her time raising her children as well as the numerous other duties that being a farm wife requires. She was a member of Waverly Lutheran Church and more recently a member of Grace Lutheran Church as well as the Fox Lake Golf Club and Interlaken Golf Club. During her free time, Evelyn enjoyed golfing, playing Bridge and just about any other card game, and going to casinos. She most loved the time she was able to spend with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory include her son, Jonathan (Karen) Helvig; daughter, Jennifer (Jon) Saxen; grandchildren, Mandy (David) Brosnahan, Stephen (Elle) Helvig, Daniel (Kendra) Helvig, Taylor Saxen, and Alex Saxen; great grandchildren, Amelia (Mia) and Fynn Brosnahan, and Eliza, Jack, and Grayson Helvig; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, Arnold and Lillie Garbers, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Helvig; grandson, Marcus Saxen; brothers, Merten Garbers, and Merle Garbers; sister, Ardis McKean; brother-in-law, Robert Helvig; and sister-in-law, Alice Albertson.

I am so sorry to hear of Evelyn's passing. I cleaned for her for several years while she was in her condo. She was so much fun to visit with and the sweetest person.
