KRANE, Evelyn (Nee Levi)
Passed away peacefully at home in Ottawa on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, age 89. A devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. Evelyn was an astute business woman and co-founder of Kiddie Kobbler Limited along with her first husband, the late Jack Krane. Also predeceased by her second husband, Irving Berlin, with whom she shared many wonderful years. Loving mother and mother-in-law of Karla Krane, Sam and Myra (Shaffer) Krane, Julia Krane and Daniel Paul. Cherished grandmother of Joshua Krane (Jaclyn Schwartzman), Justin Krane, Jacob Krane-Paul, David Newstone and Daniel Newstone (Nicki Iwasiuk). Great-grandmother of Annie Michelle Krane and Chase Newstone. Born in Vancouver, B.C. in 1926 to Russian immigrant parents, the late Laura and Sam Levi, Evelyn was the youngest of 8 siblings. She was very close to her older brothers and sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law who predeceased her: Dora and Fred Ash, Anne and Babe Helman, Sammy Lee, Sally and Max Arenott, Manny Levi, Harry and Sylvia Levi, Pauline and Joey Stone, Issie and Irene Krantzberg, Anne and Harry Froimovitch, Morris and Gertrude Krantzberg, and Julius Krantzberg. She is survived by sisters-in-law Polly Levi (Toronto) and Claire Krantzberg (Ottawa). Evelyn worked tirelessly for several community organizations in her retirement. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Nicolette Fellegi, Evelyn's physician, for her unending devotion and exemplary care, as well as the staff at the Greenboro Family Medicine Centre and the entire staff at Oak Park Retirement Community. The family is also deeply grateful for the compassionate care and friendship provided to Evelyn by Tom Agius, Karen Guevara and Nelcia Liburd. Funeral service will take place on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at the Ottawa Jewish Community Memorial Chapel, 1771 Cuba Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario. Interment to follow at the Jewish Memorial Gardens, 2692 Bank Street. Shiva will be observed in Ottawa on Saturday September 26, 2015 at the Chateau Laurier Hotel from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Oak Park Retirement Community, 2 Valour Drive from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Donations graciously accepted to the charity of your choice in Evelyn's blessed memory.
