Evelyn Langman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 4, 2024.
Evelyn Jean Langman, 89, beloved wife of William (Bill) Langman of Dumfries, Virginia, passed away at home on Friday, June 28th, following a short illness.

Evelyn was born to Fred and Mary Goodwin on April 2, 1935, in Lovilia, Iowa. The third of five siblings, she grew up in southern Iowa in a coal mining family. She met her future husband, Bill, while working in Des Moines, Iowa. They married shortly after her 18th birthday and began a loving 71-year marriage. They raised five children, and they have been blessed with 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Evelyn's family was her greatest joy and she cherished the special moments spent together, creating lasting, loving memories.

Evelyn and Bill moved many times throughout their lives, starting in a small apartment in Iowa and spending the last 38 years in Virginia. Evelyn's nurturing nature was evident in her love for entertaining, making their home a frequent gathering place for friends and family. She was a wonderfully caring friend, known for her baking and cooking. She never hesitated to bring a home-cooked meal to anyone who was ill or dealing with a problem. Her gardening skills, learned from her mother, attracted many birds to her yard, bringing her joy. She also learned her mother's seamstress skills, which she gladly shared with hundreds of people over the years, always willing to alter or mend for anyone who asked. Her selflessness and generosity touched the lives of many, leaving a legacy of love and kindness.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Goodwin (Wright); father, Fred Goodwin; siblings, Alberta Harris, Mary LeMaster, Fred Goodwin, and Patty Wright; her cherished daughters, Linda English and Evelyn Fechter; and her son-in-law, Jimmy Mignone.

Evelyn leaves behind her loving husband Bill; her children Bill Langman Jr., Julie Langman, and Patricia Mignone; son-in-law Mark English; and her beloved grandchildren, Matthew Capobianco (Tara), Abigail Mohr, Bill Langman III (Kristina), Amy Burroughs (Andy), Frank Fechter (Kristin), Lynna Neuberger (Fritz), Ben English (Lucy), Emily Reynolds (Craig), Sarah English, Daniel English (Mariah), Nicole Mignone, James Mignone (Jennifer), Stephanie Brooks (Wes), and Joey Mignone (Lexi). Her legacy lives on in her nineteen great-grandchildren. All who knew her realized the special place she had in her heart for Willie.

Friends and family are invited to attend her memorial service on Saturday, July 13 at 2 pm at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 12351 All Saints Pl, Woodbridge, VA 22192.

Mrs. Langman worked as a substitute teacher at Kerrydale Elementary School for many years, when I first met her I thought the kids were gonna run her over. Well I was wrong! She was a firecracker! She definitely didn´t let the kids get away with murder! As I got to know her she was very old school, I loved it, no nonsense she told you like it was. The kids loved her and she loved the kids. We all waited to get the langmans famous peanut brittle at Christmas. She will be missed. Mickey Parnell

When I think of Evelyn, I remember a warm, loving, faith-filled, funny friend who made me laugh. We shared so many wonderful times at church events and in the choir. I remember when I was recovering from shoulder surgery, the Langman´s let me rehab in their pool. When Bob and I were engaged to be married, Evelyn and the choir made sure I had a bridal shower! She was a willing partner in mischief and I have missed her since we moved away. I imagine she is already organizing something up in heaven and whipping up new costumes for the angels! Farewell and Godspeed, my friend!
