Evelyn Crawford Nevin

TUSCALOOSA Evelyn Crawford Nevin, born Lucy Evelyn Crawford, age 90, of Tuscaloosa, died April 10, 2011, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel with Dr. Gil McKee and Dr. Wayne Styres officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her father, Kin Daniel Crawford; her mother, Lizzie Eudorah Hannah Crawford; her brother, Calvin C. Crawford; and her husband of 53 years, Floyd Nevin.

Survivors include one sister, Dorothy Crawford Sullivan; one daughter, Melanie Nevin Hollingsworth and her husband, John Robert Hollingsworth; one granddaughter, Lisa Hollingsworth Hancock and her husband, Dr. Kevin D. Hancock; one great- grandson, Parker Daniel Hancock; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Evelyn never worked outside of the home, but she was an excellent homemaker who loved to cook and try new recipes. She was a skilled seamstress and quilt maker and also enjoyed cross stitching. She was an avid reader and loved to travel with her family. She was a strong and faithful Christian and active at First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa where she was a member of the Doris Novatnak Sunday School Class. She loved her Lord and her family dearly. She was a great encourager to us all, and she will be deeply missed.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Clark, Danny Crawford, Milton Crawford, Dr. Kevin Hancock, Billy Jones, David Sudduth, Jerome Sullivan, and Ricky Sullivan.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Leonard Jones and staff at Tuskaloosa Internal Medicine, DCH Home Health Care and staff with special nurse Leigh Harbin, RN, the nurses and staff at Hospice of West Alabama, special sitter, Sue Wicker, the Doris Novatnak Sunday School class and the Agape Sunday School class, both of First Baptist Church Tuscaloosa, and Hazel and Joe Hendrix.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama or First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa building fund.
