Exie Coldiron Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 26, 2015.
Exie passed peacefully at the age of 101 years and 10 months on May 25, 2015, from this life into Heaven to join her beloved Jesus and her family members who have gone before her. Her parents were Lilly Belle and Levi Mitchell Taylor, a Baptist minister, who farmed near Lane, Oklahoma, where she first attended school. She was a lifetime member of the Baptist church. She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, and two brothers, her husband, Charles, of 69 years, and a son, Dwight "Connie." Coldiron. She and Charles were dairy farmers. They had six sons and one daughter. She was a loving and devoted mother who often said she "would walk on water for her children." They were her pride and joy and she would do anything to help them, especially insisting that they get the best education possible, and they all became very successful because of her encouragement and sacrifice to give them a better life. She leaves behind Don and wife Elaine, Arnold and wife, Wanda; Ladona and husband M. R. Sheets, Phil and wife Kay, Mark and wife Angela, and Brent and wife Jocelyn, and 18 grandchildren: Dr. Nancy Ferry, Kim Coldiron, Michael Coldiron, Lisa Coldiron, Connie Jo Klette, Dr. Brett Coldiron, Greg Coldiron, Lt. Colonel Brynnen Hahn, Karyn Shubert, Jana Zettl, Kendal Sheets, Clay Coldiron, Kelly Coldiron, Jay Coldiron, Dr. Zachary Coldiron, Seth Coldiron, Aaron Coldiron, Rebecca Smith, and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, all of whom were very precious to her. Exie was energetic, optimistic, generous, and hard working with a fantastic memory and a passion for antique collecting, politics, American history, western books, and quilting. She had many friends and loved to prepare meals and invited them to great dinners, with homemade bread and pecan pie. She cooked many wonderful holiday meals for the family and enjoyed celebrating birthdays. Her 100th birthday party was fabulous and held at the Skirvin Hotel in Oklahoma City, with almost 200 guests attending a dinner and dance. She collected over 100 antique dolls and filled her home with antique furniture, making 121 beautiful quilts that she gave to her children, participating as a "Bellmon Bell" during ex-Governor Bellmon's campaign, reading numerous historical and western books, and traveling with Charles to many historical sites across our nation. She was nominated as "Mother of the Year" for Oklahoma. A highlight of her life was a trip to Israel at the age of 95 with son Arnold and wife Wanda, and daughter-in-law Jocelyn. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 30th, at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel, with Burial Service to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. If you wish, contributions may be made in memory of Exie to Golden Age Hospice of Oklahoma City in lieu of flowers.

Grandma, you gave us so many great years. May you find peace in the loving arms of your dear Christ Jesus. We all miss the good old days and the farm when you would cook massive meals for everyone. I stayed with you for a week one summer taking care of the baby calves. My daughter, Natalie J. Moore and I were so lucky to have the short visit with you last week. You said you were so glad about Laura's new baby due in September and said good night to us. It was so sweet to be with you, hear your kind words, and we will miss you dearly. Your other great grand-daughter Laura A. Kay and her children Bailey and Holly Ann were so very sad to hear of our loss. They send their love to the family.
With great sympathy and sadness,
Grand-daughter Karyn Dee Sheets-Shubert, King George, VA.

We knew Exie but for a short time, but it was enough time to learn what a grand lady she was. She attended our Coldiron reunion in Florida at age 99, and we watched her dance with every man in the room at her 100th birthday party in OK City! May God hold her in His loving care always, and bring peace and understanding to her loving family.

Goodbye sweet beautiful Exie.

Our prayers are with the Coldiron family as they say good-bye to a great lady. I remember her well and loved our visits together years ago. You are all so lucky to have had her with you for all these years. God Bless,

Our deepest sympathy to Brent, Jocelyn and all the Coldiron family for the loss of your beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She was a great spiritual lady, always loving, caring and cheerful; a great story teller with a joyful sense of humor. We feel so blessed to have had Exie Coldiron share some of her life with us. May the Lord bless the family with peace, strength and comfort during this difficult time.

Grandma Exie has always been such a big part of our family, I don't know how we will do without her. I enjoyed all of our time together and the stories she shared of her younger years. 101 years may seam like a long time to have her but it simply was not long enough. I know Jesus was ready for her and Grandpa was waiting for her to join him. We miss her so much.

We only knew Exie from delivering Mobile Meals to her but am so glad she was on our route. We couldn't believe her age when she turned 100! She always had a smile on her face and was very appreciative of her meals. We are sorry for the loss of your beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.
