Dear Kathy, Ryan and Stephanie,

A former classmate at Munhall High School ('71) informed me of Bob's passing, and i am very sorry to hear this news.

The reading of his obituary is quite extraordinary; he lived an impressive and fulfilling life.
God rest his soul.

To Bob's Family,

I am a member of the local ASM International Chapter and knew Bob from both the Executive Committee (where he served as the long-standing Secretary) and also as one of the Chapter Chair's that Bob helped to guide. He was always very supportive and friendly with everyone on the committee. His knowledge and years with ASM have certainly been missed. I will always remember the last time I met Bob and his wife a few years ago at the Pittsburgh Airport, when they were leaving for a world-wide tour. They both seemed quite happy to making the trip. I am sure they really enjoyed it. I am sorry to hear that he has passed and my best wishes to his family.

Dear Kathy, Ryan, and Stephanie,

I only met Bob once just after this past Thanksgiving. Bill Mayo had made some goodies and we visited for an afternoon. While most of the conversation was with Kathy, I know that Bob appreciated having a couple of other folks stop in if all they could do was just "be there."

In times such as these, I find that music is the best expression of feelings and emotions.

Being one with an aptitude for math, I'm sure that Bob would have appreciated that both it and music are allied in a big way. Not only that, but both then lend to poetry, such as found in the selection below:

The Lost Chord
-----
Music by Sir Arthur Sullivan;
words by Adelaide Anne Proctor
-----
Seated one day at the organ, I was weary and ill at ease,
And my fingers wander'd idly over the noisy keys;
I knew not what I was playing, or what I was dreaming then,
But I struck one chord of music like the sound of a great Amen.

It flooded the crimson twilight like the close of an Angel's Psalm,
And it lay on my fever'd spirit with a touch of infinite calm.
It quieted pain and sorrow like love overcoming strife,
It seem'd the harmonious echo from our discordant life.

It link'd all perplexed meanings into one perfect peace
And trembled away into silence as if it were loath to cease;
I have sought, but I seek it vainly, that one lost chord divine,
Which came from the soul of the organ and enter'd into mine.

It may be that Death's bright Angel will speak in that chord again;
It may be that only in Heav'n I shall hear that grand Amen!

And now, "The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you; the Lord lift His countenance upon you and give you His peace." Amen.

Dear Kathy, Ryan and Stephanie,
It is with great sadness that I learned of your husband and father's passing. He left quite a legacy to his family and friends. I still remember the beautiful wedding as if it were yesterday. God Bless and remember all of the good things as you grieve your loss.

Bob was supremely loyal to everybody with whom he worked. I had the good fortune to have his help in running the local chapter of ASM International, i.e. the metallurgists club in Pittsburgh. For the longest time he was our collective memory as Secretary while the rest of us served our 1 year terms! As others have commented, he was very agreeable and I'm really sorry that he's no longer with us. Best wishes to his family.
