Fay Keiser Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 5, 2024.
Fay Walton Keiser, 85, formerly of Graham, NC, Bowie, Maryland and La Vale, Maryland peacefully passed away at home with his beloved wife by his side on June 16th, 2024 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born April 29, 1939, in Cumberland, Fay was the son of the late Fay Walton Keiser Sr., and Mary Joseph Grahame Keiser. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth Vincent Keiser, Donald Joseph Keiser, Ronald Walton Keiser, and Thomas Grahame Keiser; sisters, Mary Faye Jett and Shirley Logsdon; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Keiser and Charlene Keiser; brothers-law John Jett Sr., Ralph Scarlett, and Bill Logsdon. He is survived by his wife, Carol Lynne Keiser, of 61 years; sister Lorraine Scarlett; sister-in-law Carole Blackburn Keiser; daughter Karla Lynne Bond (David); son, Kenneth Brian Keiser (Carey); grandchildren, Shawn Allen (Katie), Matthew Bond (Taylor), Alyson Young (Garrison), Kayla Keiser (Emmanuel Musa), Nathan Keiser, Jacob Keiser; great grandchildren, Lealynn Young, Anderson Young, Giana Musa, Elizabeth Bond, Nora Young, Addison Bond; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Fay received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Frostburg State, and was also a veteran in the Army (Company C 115th Infantry and the Maryland National Guard) until 1963. In 1962, Fay started his 40 year career in the Prince Georges County school system as a history teacher at Bladensburg Junior High School, and found joy educating and teaching young people not only about history, but also about life. Fay, an avid learner himself, inspired the young people for whom he was responsible and his peers within the Prince George's County school system. Fay enhanced his teaching career by accepting a Vice Principal position at Forestville High School in 1986. Following his time at Forestville High School, Fay continued in his Vice Principal position at James Madison Middle school in 2002, where he eventually retired. Fay's passion was to teach others to think for themselves and not to let the world make decisions for their future. Fay was well respected not only by his students, but also his peers. Fay was a kind and generous man who loved people.

Two years after retiring, Fay and Carol moved to North Carolina to start a new adventure in Graham. Fay and Carol enjoyed taking trips to visit family members as well as a few trips of their own to Las Vegas, Boston, and the beach; however, Fay could be found at the nearest racetrack on those beach trips. Fay also enjoyed giving back to his community by working as a substitute teacher and volunteering at his Church. Fay also enjoyed many friendships through the years, especially those at the American Legion Post 63 in Burlington, NC. Fay thoroughly enjoyed competition in life and on any given weekend, Fay could be seen enjoying the horse races, pro football games, and playing many different card games at the American Legion. Fay was an avid card player, and would "occasionally" lay a bet or two on his card games and sporting events. Fay truly treasured the many friendships he made over the years.

Fay loved his wife Carol and his entire family with all his heart. The family would like to especially thank Janice Peters of Agape Hospice Care, Imelda Pierre, and James Franklin of First Care Providers LLC (www.firstcareprovidersllc.com) for their loving care for Fay during his last few months with Alzheimer's.

There will be a celebration of Fay's life on August 24th, 2024 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at The American Legion Post 63, 2488 Moran St. Burlington, N.C. 27215. This is a time to gather with friends and family to share stories and celebrate the life Fay lived. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made payable to The American Legion Post 63 and sent to: American Legion - ATTN Adjutant, Post Office Box 1056, Burlington, NC 27216.

My favorite memory is when Mr. Keiser went looking for my stolen bicycle. We rode around Bowie until he found it being ridden by a "young man". We circled around in his Chevette until he caught him. I believe he did his best to scare that "young man" straight. Sure reminded me of what could happen to someone on the wrong path.

Hello Sweet Carol. All of us at the American Legion loved Fay. I had no idea he had passed until today. The talks about his Dad boxing Gene Tone and his crazy bets that he won where always fun. All of us loved you both!!

Fay was a wonderful neighbor and friend. He was the same everyday; smiling and engaging people. He enjoyed talking about politics. He was always relaxed and energetic at the same time. He will for sure be missed.

Carol, I'm so sorry Fay and you had to endure the horrible effects of Alzheimer's, just as Johnny did. So unfair and sad. My heart's with you and I hope, along with your grief, you can celebrate that Fay's suffering is over and he's with other family members he cherished. Take care of yourself, now.

So sorry to hear of your loss. We sure could use Fay these days to teach people to think for themselves. The education system was lucky to have him Sending love
