Fay Alvin Williams

Vivian, LA ~ Heaven got a little sweeter July 7, 2014, as our Heavenly Father called home Fay Alvin Williams after a brief illness. Fay was surrounded by his loving family as he stepped into eternity.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Vivian, LA with Rev. Wayne Shew, pastor of Gray Baptist Church officiating with Pastor Ronald Dunn, pastor of Fresh Oil Church assisting. Interment will follow at the Gray Cemetery with full military rites. There will be a time of visitation on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

He proudly served his country as a medic in the United States Army during Vietnam stationed in Germany. He was also a member of the Jefferson Masonic Lodge since 1964. Music was a big part of his life, and he was pickin' and grinnin' from an early age. He could play any instrument with a string attached to it. Fay was the best guitar picker in this part of the country. The only thing more important than music in his life, was his family and his faith.

Fay was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Thomas Williams and Monzine Smith Williams; his infant daughter, Toni Michelle Williams and childhood friend and buddy, Clyde Stevens.

He is survived by his soul mate, Lola Stevens Williams, who is his wife of almost four years, and the one he laughed with everyday. After many years of friendship, Fay and Lola found love and happiness together; two daughters, Stacie Renee and husband, Michael Kinney of Jefferson, Kristi Jo Williams Hale of Bloomburg, TX; his step-children, Clyde Stevens, Jr of Jefferson, Sherry Stevens Rice, Chris Stevens, and Andy Stevens all of Vivian, LA; one granddaughter, Kaitlyn (Katy-Lyn) Renee Hale, two grandsons, David Nicholas Hale and Christopher Craig Hale all of Bloomburg, TX. Fay is also survived by his brother, Earl Dale Williams and wife, Debbie of Haughton, LA, one sister, Dorothy Jean Williams Byerley and husband, Dickey of Vivian, LA, five nieces, two nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be John Young, Wesley Nutt, David Pearson, Tim Florence, Cody Joe Teer, Barry Headrick and Richie Byerley. Honorary pallbearers will be Kaitlyn, Nick, Christopher, Bubba, Sherry, Chris and Andy.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Fay Alvin Williams our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Fay. And to Fay it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Vietnam War while serving as a medic in the U.S. Army. Fay, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Fay's family and loved ones.

Condolences to the family. I enjoyed playing music with Fay from time to time - he showed me how to play "Let Jessie Rob the Train"...and he really helped us out with the dirt work at our place in Mooringsport. He will be missed.

So many memories were made with Fay, Earl, Clyde and "the boys", from camping out on Jeems Bayou drinking coffee brewed in the can, to making music, fixing up cars and running the roads. He was a good friend. My condolences to the families......
