Faye Barentine Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 8, 2024.
Faye Carolyn Parker Elmore Barentine passed away on June 6, 2024 while visiting her brother Norman Parker's family outside Cleveland, Ohio. She was born in Quitman, Mississippi on Sept. 7, 1942 to James & Allie (Rhoden) Parker, and was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Alvin (Ruby) Parker, Norman W (Nancy) Parker, Elizabeth (Junior) Ivy, Evelyn Virginia Stewart, and George Thomas Parker. She is survived by her husband Michael Barentine, children Kim Elmore, Lawrence Elmore (Jeanine Smith), step-daughter Shessi Barentine Gross (Jarrod), grandsons Chase and Jordon (Christine), great-granddaughter Valerie, her beloved dog Tasha, and her dear friends Gail and Mike Peterson. Faye's Parker/Ivy, Kaszei/Reed and many other nieces and nephews will miss her greatly.

While going to nursing school in Meridian, Ms, she met her eventual husband, Larry Elmore, who was in Navy flight school. After many moves, they landed in Clay County, Florida where they raised their family and she started her nursing career at the Orange Park Medical Center, which spanned from 1974 to 2009, delivering thousands of Clay County babies. She met lifelong friends working at the hospital and although she was an outstanding nurse and supervisor, these friendships were the best part of her work life.

In 1984, the family began a new chapter with the arrival of Michael Barentine!! Faye and Mike met while out dancing one night, the two were later married in Las Vegas on July 4, 1988. You know it must've been true love for mom and Mike with Mike taking on the challenge of Larry and Kim. Mike embraced the lifelong challenge and more importantly, loved Faye with all his might, bringing love, respect, and equality to their marriage which mama was thankful for and reciprocated.

Everyone that ever met Faye Carolyn fell in love with her. We bump into folks all the time that met her once, years before and the first thing they ask is, 'how's your mom... I still think about her all the time... she was so nice & interesting... is your mom coming... tell her I said hello'. As special a friend she was, she was even a better wife & mother. She was a loving and generous friend, and aunty to all of her kids' friends, and our extended family. Family was extremely important to her and her impact on her childrens' and others' lives can be seen to this day. Faye loved Elvis, the Gators, Christmas, and her family, in no particular order :)

Our hearts are broken, but we will love you forever Mama!!!

I am shocked and saddened to learn of Faye´s death. I first met her when I joined the Labor and Delivery staff in 1977. After a couple of years I transferred to the nursery but the staff all worked together closely and Faye eventually became the Department Manager. Sending sincere condolences to her family.

Just hearing that Faye passed away. As people may or may not know Faye and Mike sat next to my dad and I for as long as I can remember going to Gator games until we moved seats about ten years ago. They basically watched me grow up.

I met Faye over 42 years ago in Orange Park, FL. She was a nurse working for the Hospital and was so energetic . I was a hair stylist and met her through my sister Kathy. Faye wore a perfect "Dorothy Hamil". Wedge style then moved into a A symmetric cut. She was so fun, also ready to help anyone and loved her kids. Then after many years we got backed together since she and Bill gat married and Moved to St. Augustine. I´m going to miss her!

Faye was an awesome L&D manager. We met on a nursing governance committee while I was a CCU nurse and aided my transition to L&D. She kept our morale up with Spring Flings, Lip Syncs, and Christmas party skits. Her daily motivation kept me at Orange Park Medical Center for 12 years until I moved out of state. She was a truly wonderful person. Bless all those people she touched. Veta Buckholz

Faye was a ball of energy! I loved working side by side with Faye. She taught me so much about supporting nurses and having their backs because she sure had mine! One of my fondest memories was when Faye and I took an "Educational" cruise to Costa Rica, Belize and the Panama Canal. We took a tram through the Rain Forest. I can't remember anything about the classes but everything about how much fun we had. My girl, one of a kind!!!

We all love Faye (and Mike). Grandma Gail and Grandpa Peterson would take our girls over to their house in St. Augustine to attend the Marineland Camp in the Summer. So many great memories. You will continue to be in our prayers! Becky, Mike, Regan and Addison Smith.

I have many wonderful memories of Faye. I started working at OPMC in 1986. I soon became the secretary for the CFO and that´s when I met Faye. Month after month I delivered her departments accruals. I once ask her, "if I go to nursing school, will you hire me in L&D?" She was good on her word. In 1991 I went to work in L&D and had 10 wonderful years working with Faye. We had the best Christmas party´s ever. So many fun memories.

Writing this as tears flow, she was my family when I has none. When my husband was deployed and I had a baby, she taught me how to be me. She bought me in from NICU and PP to learn labor in 2002 and there I found family. She was fierce in all the best ways. She loved with all of her being. She was loud and passionate. She taught me so much about how I wanted to be as a nurse, a leader and a person. May light perpetual always shine on her and may her family know that she will always be remembered with so much love.

I´m in tears. Faye was my first `boss, supervisor, friend´who took a chance on an inexperienced L/D nurse and taught me all I know about the job I did and loved for 25 years at OPMC. I started in the nursery but was always poking my head into L/D so after my 2 nd child was born ( who she helped deliver) she encouraged me to come to L/D and remained there. She was a no nonsense but compassionate teacher of the trade and would stand by you no matter what against Drs , co workers, and administration. She made OPMC L/D department.
Rest in peace dear one. Judy

Faye was a mentor to me! She was awesome to her staff and stood up for her nurses. She was fair, she enjoyed and encouraged hands on nursing care. Faye was respected by the physicians she worked with. She was the life of the party and always willing to participate in our lip syncs and great parties. Faye, you will be missed by so many, we loved you so much!

Iceland trip.. she was so fun with her daughter Kim.. made the trip memorable..especially when we never saw the Northern Lights and Kim took photos of the green lights on the bus´s ceilings and we all pretended they were the Northern Lights and posted them. Tom and I ate every night with Faye and Kim.. same politics etc. I treasure knowing Faye for that one week

We are brokenhearted on the passing of Aunt Faye. She will be missed for sure. I was spoiled rotten by her and others being the first grandchild on the Parker side and the first granddaughter on the Ivy side. She and Mike gave me and Lisa a red rose bush each when mama (Faye´s sister) passed away in April of this year. Mine is full of red roses and I will always think of Aunt Faye when it is blooming. I am thankful to have it.
