Feliciano Tavares Obituary
Born in Providence, R.I., Flash lived his entire life spreading joy throughout Southeastern Massachusetts and Bristol County.
Music was an important part of his life. A self-taught musician by listening to the radio and anything he could get his hands on, Flash was an icon throughout the Cape Verdean culture, spending weekend after weekend playing gigs long into the night, his wife always by his side. He was also a 35-year member of the spiritual assembly of Bahai of Barnstable.
A longtime Hyannis resident, Flash worked many great jobs, including a number of years at Puritan and in security at the Kennedy compound.
Flash loved photography, his house full of photo albums. He has a musical collection that could rival Amazon. He also loved nature, his garden and his puzzles, and was known never to waste anything. Over recent years, he became a computer game lover, still holding all the highest scores in Bookworm.
He lived for his family, he lived for everyone. Flash would have given his last dollar if somebody he thought needed it.
We will all miss you, dad, grampa, papa, brother, husband and friend. So Sabe, So Sabe, you have been.
He is survived by wife, Grace, of 38 years. Mr. Tavares was predeceased by his first wife, Albina Gomes Tavares, also by his daughter, Eva Baptiste. He is also survived by his daughters, Jenny Mello, Deolinda Borges, Kathleen Clarke; sons, John Baptiste, Ralph, Arthur, Antone, Victor, Feliciano Jr., and Perry Tavares; and a sister, Victoria Tavares Vierra. Mr. Tavares was predeceased by 10 siblings. There are 41 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis. Burial will be on Saturday, Dec. 20, at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Centerville, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis MA. 02601, or American Cancer Society, 714A Main Street, Yarmouthport, MA 02675.
