FELIX MCKNIGHT STAFFORD

Felix McKnight (Mac) Stafford 84, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garfield and Lena Stafford, and two brothers, Arthur and Harold Stafford.

Felix was born in Concord, North Carolina where he was a 1951 graduate of Logan High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy where he became a Chief Petty Officer. Upon completion of 20 years of service in the US Navy, he resided in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was employed by Widefield School District 3 and was assigned to Janitell Junior High School as a night custodian where he was loved and respected by students, staff, and the administration. As the head custodian at Janitell, he retired in 1993 from Widefield School District 3, after 20 years of dedicated service. However, in 2014, he was honored by the school system for being more than a janitor; he was a Widefield School Legend, an honor bestowed on someone who has become a role model for the students and regarded as a trusted mentor. Felix loved gardening and growing colorful flowers, especially large beautiful fragrant roses. He dearly loved playing the piano and shared his self-taught talent which was enjoyed by everyone who heard him play.

Felix is survived by four children, Scott Stafford of (Los Angeles, CA), Betty Stafford (Los Angeles CA), Kelly Stafford (Colorado Springs, CO), and Sylvia Wagoner of Concord, NC; two brothers, Bill of Concord, NC, and Harry (wife, Dr. Patricia) of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Elizabeth Norford of Concord, NC and Dorothy Childs (Husband, Dr. Walter III) of High Point, NC; many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and a host of friends. Special thanks to two very dedicated friends, Gerald Reese and John Yates, and the staff at The Center on Cordera, in Colorado Springs. He will be sorely missed by his loving family and friends but his music will always play on.

A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11a.m. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Colorado, Springs, CO, where his ashes will be interred. Arrangements are under the direction of Advantage Funeral & Cremation Service, Colorado Springs, CO.
