Peacefully, with family by his side, on March 16, 2016, at the age of 88. Loving husband of Vera for 66 years. Devoted father of Susan Fried (Jean Favreau). Cherished grandfather of Julien and Joel. Beloved brother of Alexander Fried. Ferdinand will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, who helped Ferdinand in his last months with compassionate care delivered with dignity and understanding. A special thank you to his long time physician, Dr. Phillip Starosta. Ferdinand came from very difficult beginnings; a beginning one must never forget. Born in Slovakia, his life's journey took him all over the world. He searched for his inner peace, all the while giving back and caring for people, and above all, for those he loved. A man with a soft, kind and sensitive heart. Ferdinand was a brilliant scientist, passionate about his work. He enjoyed tennis, good books, loved classical music, engaging conversation and had a great sense of humour. Concerned and contemplative of the ways of the world he cared deeply about. Ferdinand had a long and interesting life; may he rest knowing he travelled it well, and that he deserves eternal peace and tranquility. Funeral care entrusted to
