Filomena de Sousa

Filomena (do Carmo Silva) de Sousa, 93, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully, at Mercy Hospital, on May 17, 2017 with her loving family by her side. Born in Carvalhal de Turquel, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel da Silva and Ana do Carmo. Filomena immigrated to the United States in 1974, settled in Indian Orchard, and worked for many years at Milton Bradley before retiring in 1985. In 2008, she came to live in Ludlow with her beloved daughter, “Fátinha” and son-in-law, Adelino, Sr. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fátima Church and will be remembered by all who loved her as a kind woman, who was always smiling and had a deep devotion to her family and God. Filomena was the beloved wife of the late António Antunes de Sousa, who predeceased her in 2001; a loving mother to the late José da Silva de Sousa, who passed away in 2006, and his widow Fátima, of Portugal, to Augusto “Gus” de Sousa and his wife Josephine, of Ludlow, and to Maria de Fátima Palatino and her husband Adelino, Sr., of Ludlow; a devoted grandmother to Jorge (Ana Catarina) de Sousa, of Portugal, Joanna (José) Franco, of Ludlow, Tony (Laura) de Sousa, of Wilbraham, Mary de Sousa, of Ludlow, Adelino (Mayumi) Palatino Jr., of Japan, and Brígida Palatino, of Westwood, MA; an adoring great-grandmother to Inês, Diogo, Lucas, Eliana, Audriana, Madelyn, and Cristina. Filomena was a dear sister to the late Palmira, Adelino, Adelina, and Maria, all of Portugal. She also leaves many nieces and nephews, and several extended family members and dear friends both in the United States and Portugal. Funeral services for Filomena will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd at 9:00am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fátima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
