Florence Cross Obituary

Florence A. (Daly) Cross, 86, of Vernon, a women with a strong sense of family, friends and community, died Thursday, (November 28, 2002) with much of her family at her side at Rockville General Hospital. Born in New York City, NY, daughter of the late James and Mary (Carroll) Daly she had lived in Massapequa Park, NY before coming to Vernon in 1978. Married February 27, 1943, she was the wife of 17 years of the late Ralph T. Cross. She was a secretary in the Massapequa, NY School System, retiring in 1977 and also worked for Travelers Insurance Co. for three years after coming to Connecticut. She was a communicant, a Eucharistic Minister and a Minister of the Sick at Sacred Heart Church and in St. Matthew's Church since 1997. Mrs. Cross volunteered for ten years at the Rockville General Hospital in the Physical Therapy and Day Surgery Departments. She also was a member of the Rockville AARP. She is survived by three children, Michael Cross and his wife Mary of Vernon, Keith Cross and his wife Paulette of Delmar, NY and Bruce Cross of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Evelyn Bruegge of Sun City, AZ; six grandchildren, Catherine Sikorski and her husband Don, Heather Cross, Kerry Mara and her husband Solo, Katie Cross, Eric Cross and his wife Veronica and Allison Cross; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Jerry Daly. The funeral procession will leave from the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd., Rte.83, Vernon, Monday, December 2, 9:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., at St. Matthew Church, Tolland. Burial will be held Tuesday in St. John's Cemetery, Queens, NY. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Rockville General Hospital, Physical Therapy or the Day Surgery Departments, 31 Union St., Rockville, CT 06066.
