The funeral service for Florence Reinhart, 95, a longtime Stewartville, resident will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville, with the Rev. Lyle Fritsch officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville with military graveside honors by the Stewartville American Legion Post 164.

Mrs. Reinhart died on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, of natural causes at her home in Rochester.

Florence Anna Schulze was born Nov. 29, 1921, in South St. Paul, to Fred and Mary(Waldhauser) Schulze, the seventh of 9 siblings. She graduated from South St. Paul High School in 1939. She attended the nursing program at the Rochester State Hospital, receiving her R.N. degree in 1943. She enlisted into the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps in 1943, serving during WWII until her discharge in 1950.

Florence was married on July 28, 1951 to George Reinhart at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville. Following their marriage, the couple lived and farmed in rural Racine, and raised their family. Florence was a farm wife and homemaker and was employed at Rochester State Hospital until it closed and then finished her career at St. Peter State Hospital.

In 1978 following the sale of their farm, they moved into Stewartville. George and Florence were supervisors and caretakers at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville for more than 40 years. Florence was a longtime active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville, serving with the Ladies Aid and volunteering with the Wee Care. Florence truly enjoyed giving of her time and talent to many organizations, including Mayo Hospice, Channel One and the Stewartville Care Center. She gave many friends car rides when they needed help with transportation and was recognized with many local community awards for her commitment and active volunteerism. She was a member of the Stewartville American Legion and Auxiliary and was honored to participate in the First Honor Flight from Rochester to the Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Florence loved to travel, visiting all 50 states, the birthplace of her father in Germany, and many other countries.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving family of four daughters and one son, Shirley (Rollin) Granger of Cypress, Texas, Ilene (Craig) Van Houten of Coon Rapids, Minn., Julie (Stan) Glenz of Spring, Texas, Marjorie (Kirk) Brunson of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and David Reinhart of Blaine, Minn.; many grand, great grand and great-great grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Frerichs, of Oakland, Calif.; and a special friend and niece, Jeanne Cosgrove.

Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. to the time of the service on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville. (www.griffin-gray.com)

Florence will be greatly missed. She always liked knowing what the Historical Society was up to and how things were going. She enjoyed helping out at the Historical Society's February fundraiser when she was able to do so. She will be missed by all of us at the S.A.H.S.(Stewartville Area Historical Society)

I am so sorry for your loss. Your Mother was such a great lady. I remember the times we girls played together on the farm and she was always so kind and caring to us. Heaven gained another Angel. God bless you all and strengthen you in your grief.

My condolences to Florence's family. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I spent a weekend at the farm many years ago and was so impressed with the love Florence showed to all members of her family. She was a wonderful example of a dedicated wife and mother.
