John Morrow Obituary

John William Morrow, D.O., fell asleep in the Lord, Tuesday, May 14, 2002. He was born November 14, 1916 to J.B. and Emilia Morrow in Larned, KS. Dr. Morrow was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed. He received his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, MO in 1938. He completed an internship at Gleason Hospital in Larned, KS in 1939. He practiced medicine for 12 years in Greensburg, KS. During that time, he and his late wife, Betty, served as presidents of the Kansas Osteopathic Medical Association and the Auxillary, respectively. In 1952 Dr. Morrow set up practice in Woodward, OK where he practiced medicine for over 40 years before he retired. He was active in the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association(OOA), was its president from 1959-1960, and was a member of the Oklahoma Osteopathic Board of Examiners from 1973-1975. In 1981 he received the honor of Doctor of the Year from the OOA. He was also a member of the American Osteopathic Association and Western District Association. He was awarded the Life Membership Certificate by the OOA signifying his long and continued support of the OOA and the osteopathic profession in Oklahoma. While he was in Woodward he and Betty, were active together in several organizations throughout the community, including the First Christian Church of Woodward. He was a long time member of many civic organizations including The Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, and Elks Lodge. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Woodward Lodge 189 and the Guthrie Scottish Rite Temple. He was honored by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol as an 'Honorary Highway Patrolman' in gratitude for his loving care and concern for the patrolmen of this district and their families. In addition to his family medical practice and civic involvement he collected and restored antique cars as his favorite past time. He is survived by his sister Ruthe Alexander of Laguna Beach, CA, his sons Mark and Lee and Lee's wife Rosemary, and grandchildren, Marco and his wife Meredith, Michelle Lee, Michael, David Lee, Cody and Tina Castor, Clint Castor, and four great- grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emilia and J.B. Morrow, his wife Betty Jean Morrow, and his second wife Thelma Woodall Morrow, and his daughter-in-law, Susu Morrow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to Oklahoma Educational Foundation for Osteopathic Medicine, 4848 N. Lincoln, Oklahoma City, OK 73105; or to the First Christian Church of Woodward. The funeral service will be held Friday, May 17, 2002 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Christian Church of Woodward. Dr. Morrow was a great inspiration to me. He drove across Oklahoma each week to teach us at OkCOMS, in the late 70s. He was a kind and generous man. He will be missed.
