After graduating in Phyllis Wheatley High school's class of 1927, she attended Prairie View University, graduating in the class of 1931. She later received a M. Ed from Texas Southern University. She is survived by her immediate family, Edith Bradford King and daughters Anne and Frances; Christina Punch Brown and sons, Errran and Kelly, a host of Cousins and her beloved extended family, the Stiners and Bolivers. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to Houston's First United Methodist Church, Methodist Hospital Cancer Center, Prairie/View University, or the Ebony Opera Guild.

As a young African American leader that had the idea that I knew everything about life and being a leader I met a wonderful inspirational woman named Flossie Lewis! She taught me to listen and comprehend the conversation before speaking. She also taught me to try not to argue when I know I'm right! She told me the truth will always show it self in time. This dynamic woman named Flossie Lewis will be missed by all of the lives she touched!
