Floyd Albert Austin

Floyd Albert Austin, 84, of Niagara Falls, NY, entered into rest on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, NY. Born on July 16, 1924 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Harlow and Augusta (Burow) Austin. In 1958, he married the former Vera M. Webber in Niagara Falls, NY.Mr. Austin was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY, attended local schools and graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School. Floyd worked as a police dispatcher for the Niagara Falls Police Department and later worked as a building inspector for the City of Niagara Falls. He also served as project manager for the Niagara Falls Housing Authority. In the 1960's, Mr. Austin served on the Board of Directors of the Firemen's Credit Union and was licensed by the Federal Communications Commission as a First Class Stationary Fireman. Following his retirement, Floyd also worked for his son-in-law at Niagara Urban Industries.Mr. Austin was an avid bird lover and could be seen feeding the pigeons at various locations in the city. Floyd was a life member of the Rainbow Animal Shelter (Niagara County SPCA). Mr. Austin was awarded the Good Samaritan Award because of his willingness to volunteer his services freely. Floyd enjoyed attending the "E.O. Austin Days" which were established in honor of his great-great-grandfather, and visiting the E.O. Austin Museum, both in Austin, PA. He was a member of the New Apostolic Church in Niagara Falls, NY, where he was always willing to give a helping hand. In addition to his beloved wife, Vera, Mr. Austin is survived by one daughter, Karen (Eddie) Ashley of Niagara Falls, NY; three grandchildren, Donna (Alex) Riley of Amherst, NY, Eddie (Erica) Ashley, Jr., of Sodus, NY, and Jennifer (Don) Eger of Lewiston, NY; and nine great-grandchildren, Stefan (Christina) Coker, Ryan Coker, Brittany (Demetris) Pringle, Alexis Riley, Nicholas Riley, Tyler Ashley, Jaden Ashley, Deysha Ashley Johnson and Lauren Eger.Friends may call Sunday from 7-9 PM at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, LASALLE PARK CHAPEL, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (297-9007), and on Monday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the New Apostolic Church, 9510 Marine Memorial Drive (at 95th Street), Niagara Falls, NY, where a funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon, with Rev. Russell R. Burr officiating. Interment in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
