"To be absent from the body--Is to be present with the Lord"
2 Cor. 5:8

Floyd Marcell DeBurger, born on March 4, 1938, in Phoenix, AZ, peacefully passed away on March 4, 2024, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 86. Floyd was a larger than life personality who lived life on his own terms, much like the song lyrics "I Did it My Way". He was a devoted husband to Judy, the love of his life, and a loving father to his daughters, Sheryl and Dianna. Later in life, he welcomed bonus children, David and Barbara, into his heart.

Earlier in life, he attended Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City, before going into the Air Force at age 17. He kept in touch with his Air Force buddies, especially John McCrory and Roy Rogge, with annual reunions throughout the years. In 1957, Floyd married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Armstrong. They had two beautiful daughters born during his time in the Air Force.

Floyd and Judy, his wife for 39 years, were married in the First Baptist Church in McKinney, TX in 1985. He was a believer and follower of Jesus Christ, and during his last hours here on earth, he praised God for his long life.

Floyd proudly served in the United States Air Force for 6 years before embarking on a successful and at times challenging entrepreneurial journey. He owned various businesses such as Dee's Hi Brow Carpets (OKC), Kawasaki Motorcycle Shops (Garland and Lancaster, TX) and Lake Whitney Cycle Ranch. Floyd also held numerous positions, including Floor Planning Representative for ITT Finance Corporation (Plano, TX), and Director at American College Trade & Truck Driving School (Lawton, OK).

In his free time, Floyd enjoyed working on classic cars like his 1974 Lotus and 1963 Thunderbird, taking family members dirt bike/ATV riding, and traveling in his motorhome. He cherished his time spent with his grandchildren, whom he loved to spoil.

He also spent 18 years writing, editing and publishing a memoir on Amazon about his early childhood to young adulthood. The book titled "Testing the Angels" chronicles his difficult and abusive childhood, and how his teenage homeless years tested the patience of his human and spiritual angels!

Floyd is survived by his beloved wife, Judy, his two daughters and sons-in-law; Sheryl and Johnny Hutchison of Granbury, TX, and Dianna and Bobby Childress of Red Oak, TX; Bonus son and daughter-in-law, David and Amanda Overstreet of Honolulu, HI, and bonus daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Dave Kinast of Norman, OK. He adored his thirteen grandchildren (Jeramey Hutchison, Jaime Canright, Molly Hutchison, Scott Sanders, Celia Lopez, James Pedrin, Isaac Overstreet, Annabelle Overstreet, Lincoln Overstreet, Pollyanna Overstreet, Dixieanna Overstreet, Ollie Kinast and Atlas Kinast); and his eight great-grandchildren (Bridgit Canright, Cayden Hutchison, Anya Sanders, Kyndal Sanders, Dhamon Sanders, Julian Lopez, Elena Lopez and Sofia Pedrin). He also leaves behind a brother, David Rudder of Phoenix, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Prewitt; brother, Kenneth; sisters, Mazella Wise and Ozella Pollock; foster son, Willie George; and his beloved Uncle George Prewitt, his mentor and father figure, who helped raise him during his formative preschool years.

A private Memorial "Celebration of Life" will be held for family and close friends on March 19th at Pecan Plantation Clubhouse in Granbury, TX. A Cemetery Ceremony will be held at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, TX (Date TBA). In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a charity of your choice in Floyd's memory.

It is difficult to explain the friendships that develop between men/women who serve together in the military. They become like family and it doesn't end when they leave the service. Floyd was a part of such a group. Our friends stayed in touch many years after we were discharged and got together in different parts of the country. I will miss him. My feelings go out to his loving wife and family

Floyd was always surprising me with some new "out of the box" scheme. His good friend, C.C. Koehler, use to say, "God Broke the Mold when he created Floyd".
