Floyd Kenneth Noel III Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 30, 2024.
Floyd "Kenneth" Noel, 84, passed away on August 21, 2024, in Charlotte, NC. Born in Wichita, KS, he dedicated 22 years of his life to the Air Force before retiring from Active-Duty Military Reserves as a Major. Kenneth also served his community as a mail carrier for USPS and later as a budget analyst for the State of Texas.

A man of deep faith, Kenneth was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Pflugerville, TX, and a current member of First Baptist Church of Charlotte, NC. He was known for his early morning quiet times in prayer and Bible study. An avid gospel and bluegrass musician, Kenneth first learned ukulele while playing in a band with his father. In high school he taught himself guitar and as a young military officer he was in a folk group and taught himself banjo. This love of music and performing carried into various quartets, choirs, and drama ministries at his local church.

Kenneth's enthusiasm for sports was unmatched. He was an avid player of fast-pitch softball, basketball, football, and golf. He enjoyed them so much that he refereed football for 24 years and was also a golf course marshal in Austin. Kenneth's educational journey took him through the Wichita State and Ohio State, earning his MBA while "babysitting" missiles in South Dakota.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Phyllis Eudene Noel, and their four children and their spouses: David & Pam Noel, Stephen & Kelli Noel, Lynda & Lee Miller, and Teresa & Charles Yates. He was a cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren: Melody Redepenning, Harmony Noel, Christian Noel, Naomi Noel, Joy White, Leilani Cross, Brittany Miller, Sarah Economides; and nine great-grandchildren: Michaela White, Steven White, Brendan White, Kaydence Cross Chloe Cross, Charlotte Cross, Lily Miller-Skiba, Jason Economides, Artemis Economides. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd K. Noel II and Dorothy Noel, and his sisters, Pat Stantz and Carol Dunn, as well as his great-granddaughter, Iris Economides.

A Memorial Service is planned at First Baptist Church of Charlotte on September 9th at 12 Noon. His interment will be at the National Cemetery Annex in Salisbury, NC at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kenneth's memory can be made to Charlotte Rescue Mission, Salvation Army, or 2nd Harvest Food Bank. Kenneth will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a faithful servant of God, whose legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.

If you have a memory you would like to share from Floyd's time in the service, please feel free to post them at the Veteran's Legacy Memorial at https://www.vlm.cem.va.gov/FLOYDKENNETHNOEL/a7742c
