Frances – A Archer

Frances Arvelia Chisum Archer was born on October 29, 1921 to Colonel William Woodruff and Bertha Hudson Chisum in New York City. She attended public schools in New York and after graduation from high school worked as a proof-reader for the Amsterdam News, the premier newspaper in Harlem, NY. She married Chief Master Sargent Fred Archer on October 29, 1949. They moved to Tucson, Arizona since he was stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. Their son, Steve was born on July 3, 1951. As the wife of a career soldier, Frances and her family lived in Germany and Japan as well as various locations in the United States.

Her main focus in life was her family. Her mother Bertha lived and traveled with the family for many years. Frances had many interests and abilities, including learning to fly a Piper Cub airplane however she never obtained her license. Frances also began volunteering in the Family Services division of the Air Force wherever they were stationed. She completed 50 years of volunteer service, culminating 24,482 hours of volunteer service. She retired from Family Services at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. She lived her life in full, enjoying her family and friends as well as her pets, both dogs and cats.

A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 6, at 1:00 PM and Funeral Services to immediately follow at 2:00 PM, East Lawn Palms Mortuary; 5801 East Grant Road, Tucson, AZ 85712.

What fond and fun memories I have when we both worked together at the family services building when first arriving at this base. You made me feel so welcome and for that I am always grateful. God Bless you and your family.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. The scripture at James 4:8 encourages us to "Draw close to God and he will draw close to you".
