Manuel A. Macias Jr., 31, was born in Santa Paula on Sept. 28, 1976. He left this world on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008. He was a lifelong resident of Santa Paula and graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1994.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in the fall of 1998 and was honorably discharged in 2002. Shortly after being discharged from the Marines, he found his life calling in Yoga. His teaching methods were as unique as he was. He embraced the true spirit of Yoga and did not expect others to emulate him, but rather he adapted his methods to benefit the individual. His success was so great he had a very dedicated following that included private students, senior centers, Braille Institute, MS Society and the Gay & Lesbian Center.
Manuel was a loving, caring, and giving person. He had a personality like no one else and full of energy that was infectious to everyone he came in contact with. He will always be remembered for his beautiful smile and warm heart.
He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel A. Macias; grandparents, Tom and Margaret Dominguez; grandfather, Albaro Macias; and great-grandparents, Luis and Severiana Castro.
He leaves behind his family: mother, Cynthia Macias; sister, Melissa Grisales; brother-in-law, Jackson Grisales; nephews, Jason and Marcus Grisales; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family.
Forever in our Hearts — Namaste.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, 738 E. Santa Paula St., Santa Paula, CA 93060, directly followed by a funeral Mass at 7 p.m. at St. Sebastian Church. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, 738 E. Santa Paula St., Santa Paula, CA 93060; 805-525-3391.

Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

To each of Manuel's loved ones, family and friends, and to those who were blessed to have known him, my heartfelt sincere prayers are with you. May you find comfort with the memories Manuel left with you. Words can not express how much this has touched our hearts. Manuel will be missed because he gave so much of himself. He truly was an angel who radiated his kindness and joyfulness in all he did. Vikki's grandma wanted me to say how sorry she was to hear of your loss; especially of someone who had goals and was making so much of his life, Once a Marine-Always a Marine, educated, volunteering his time, and Always remembering his Family and friends, not just on special occassions or holidays, but making each day a Special Day of Life. May you keep his memory alive in your hearts and lives and may God Bless each of you.

Even though I knew the family indirectly through my daughters, I had never personally met Manuel until a couple of years ago when his good friend, Jade, brought him to the Santa Paula Moose Lodge. What a great guy! So sincere, caring, and funny! I am a lot of years older than he was and he always had time to hold a conversation with me. He will sincerely be missed by many. My sincerest sympathy to all the Macias family.

To the Macias Family - I'm so very sorry to hear of your loss. I first met Manny about 15 years ago, when Missy and I worked at City Hall in Santa Paula. There were daily exchanges (either in person or by telephone) and you could tell that the bond between them was very strong. It was evident they were not only "family", but also the very best of friends. Manny, definitely, made a difference in this world and his compassionate and cheerful spirit will be missed by many. May all the many wonderful, warm, and happy memories comfort you during this difficult time. My heart goes out to you and my thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

My prayers and thoughts are with the Macias Family. Manuel touched my heart. I was amazed how he gave so much of himself to help other people. It warmed my heart to see how Manuel would reach out to people through his yoga. I will never forget his big smile and friendly manner. I think our organization was touched by an angel and his name is Manuel Macias. I feel honored that I had the opportunity to work with Manuel.

Although I did not know Manny personally, I saw him every week at the gym in Santa Paula. We passed eachother everyday, gave a smile and said "hello". Our little town and gym is very small and you see the same people everyday. I was thankful to see Manny's smile and to also hear about his love and passion for Yoga. He helped others in a way, he probably didn't even know about. We will miss his smile at the gym. God bless the family!

I remember the day he walked into the recruiting office in 1998 and said he wanted to be a Marine. I didn't think he was serious but I quickly learned he was exactly the type who would do well in our Corps and I am glad I had a very small impact on his life and I am so sad he was taken from us so early. God must have needed you more. Semper Fidelis Marine--may you always rest in eternal peace.

I will miss Manual a lot. I recently started a Yoga class at the senior center and there were times that I did not have much energy to do all the exercises, but my cuz Manny made me get off my butt and do them. He always greeted me with a big hug and a big smile. I will miss him a gret deal but he will always be in my hart. I want his family to know that I am here for you and my prayers are with you.

That email was from Manuel he found my email address and wanted to see how I was doing. We have been emailing back and forth since that day last year. Dios mio... that LAUGH!!! We KNEW when Manny was around... the JOY and STRENGTH of his infectious laughter made everyone turn and smile... Manuel, we knew of each other, but we never really "knew each other"... but as I read of your gifts to others and the sacrifices and love your shared, I KNOW that I was blessed to cross paths with you through our youth and adult years. Manny, may your new existence continue to bring peace and joy to others as you walk with us in spirit... To the Macias family, I offer my prayers, support and love. NAMASTE Manny!

Your smile and laughter were contagious everywhere you went. I will cherish my memories of you.. dancing, cracking up, cooking, wine filled nights, yoga, and of course- our talks. Manuel was such an amazing person! I was very fortunate for him to be a part of my life when he would come to my home to teach Yoga lessons to my husband and I. as I was recovering from back surgery, not only did he help me heal, I feel like he is partially responsible for giving me my life back. His fun spirit, peacefulness in yoga, and calm demenaor helped me be grounded with the craziness of life. I always looked forward to those Thursday nights as he would come and I would feel so refreshed, rejuvinated and relaxed. I know he is watching over us now and am thankful he will always be in my heart to remind me about who I am and the important things in life--he has much bigger work ahead of him now to be our guardian angels--lord knows we need it!

As I sit here and think of so many thoughts in my head. The first thing that comes to mind is how we can let people out of lives and regret not keeping in touch until it's too late. Manuel was a very kind, sweet, big hearted person. He always seemed to be in a cheerful mood no matter what the day brought. I think of times when we were in grade school, and I think of him acting silly, laughing and dancing. We even got in trouble with our teachers for that. He always brought a smile to my face. Manuel will be missed greatly, but never forgotten. May God give the Macias family strength through this very difficult time. God Bless you.

We shared many laughs, dinner parties, birthdays, nights at Paddy's, etc. You even touched my child's life on the days you'd watch him because I didn't have daycare (Wiggles Dance Party). Memory is a special place in our hearts where we can find comfort in the treasured thoughts of those we hold dear.
My condolences go out to the Macias family.

Our heartfelt sympathy to all during these difficult times. Manuel was a wonderful free caring spirit, I will always remember when they were young and the times they shared with Marcus and Ali. I will always remember the words he said to me his words were "Don't worry Tere everything is going to be okay" I now tell you and I am sure he would want you to know that everything is going to be okay. May God give you comfort, peace, strength and faith through these difficult days ahead. God Bless You All.
