rances Therese Hughes, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2022, at the age of 87. Fran was born on August 14, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, to Rosario Sol Marino and Rose Mannina Marino.

Fran was a compassionate and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was a woman of quiet strength and fortitude, especially in the face of adversity. She was known for her fiesty nature and a great sense of humor, making friends easily with her engaging personality and beautiful smile.

Fran attended Taft High School, where she graduated in 1953, later, working for years as an organizer for their reunions. After raising her three children, she worked for Edison Press, Inc., volunteered for Hospice and created a small dried flower craft business.

Fran (Babe) loved to sing and dance, creating beautiful harmonies and dancing fun swing numbers with her dear sister, Jeanette, with brothers Joe and Russ joining in the fun. Frannie enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas to watch shows and play the machines with her dear friends Carole, Joanne and Judye. and looked forward to her extended annual stays in El Paso, TX to visit her daughter, son-in-law and her many Southwest friends.

Fran was a talented cook and loved to prepare meals for family and friends. Her lasagna was always highly requested at gatherings. She was an enthusiastic fan of the Chicago Cubs and Da Bears. She was an avid bowler, playing on leagues with her husband, as well as on the St. Juliana Ladies League for 39 years, serving as president in 1976, and for 11 years on the Monday Seniors League.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, William D. Hughes, her son William R. Hughes, her mother Rose Mannina Marino, her father Rosario Sol Marino and her siblings Joseph Marino (Judye), Russell Marino, and Jeanette Albright (James) and sister-in-law, Gwenneth Scherer (William).

She is survived by her two loving children, Ellen M. Hughes (Dennis McElveen) and Michael T. Hughes (Laurencja), and their daughter, Amber Joy, who was the light & love in grandma's heart. Fran is also survived by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, for whom she cared for dearly.

There will be a graveside committal service for family and friends at All Saints Cemetery on Friday, June 9, at 11:30 am. A Celebration of Life will follow, loved ones and friends are welcome to join Fran's family for food, laughter, sweet tears, and to share special moments of their times with Fran.

The family is grateful to Dr. Smiriti Goel, the oustanding staff at Whitehall of Deerfield, and Guardian Hospice for their excellent care and guidance.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org or the American Cancer Society.

Fran will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. May her memory live on in the hearts of her loved ones forever.

I'm so sorry I couldn't see you when I was there. Covid wouldn't let me. I'm sorry I can't be there now. But i have so many wonderful memories of you when I was a kid. Rest in Heavenly peace.

My dear, sweet godmother and aunt. I cherish our times together and miss you so much. My heart aches. You are now with your siblings and I'm sure you are all cutting up just like the old days. Ellen and Mike, may the angels wrap their wings around you and give you comfort. Love you both.
