Frances Elizabeth Hurtado passed away peacefully on September 1, 2014 at Stonemere Rehab Center in Frisco, Texas. Fran was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico on June 5, 1921. She is preceded in death by her husband Joe Hurtado, parents Jose and Ruby Sandoval, brother Fred Sandoval and sister Margaret Sandoval. She is survived by her son Dennis (Jeanie), grandsons Matthew (Annalisa) and Nathan (Holly), sister-in-law Connie Sandoval. Fran enjoyed her two beautiful granddaughters Amelia and Sophia Hurtado. Fran graduated from Menaul High School in 1939. Fran served in the Women's Army Corp from 1944 to 1945 as a recruiter and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. She had numerous jobs working in retail, bookbinding and as a secretary. In 1965 she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State College at East Los Angeles with a degree in education. She taught kindergarten for 17 years in the Los Angeles Unified School District helping lead the bilingual program at City Terrace Elementary. After Joe's death, Fran moved to Texas in 2001 where she remained active in her love for bowling, watching basketball games and attending bible study. She is a breast cancer survivor. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Graveside services and burial will be held on September 26, 2014 at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe Street at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather immediately following the service at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 841 W. Manhattan Avenue.
