Frances Stone Barnhart Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 29, 2009.
DELHI _ Frances left our world and met her Lord on Oct. 28, 2008, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Aug. 28, 1922, in Malone, the daughter of Edward J. Rossley and Nora E. Timmons Rossley.
Frances married Leo F. Stone in 1941, and had four children, Gary F. Stone and wife, Pam, of Vernon, Conn., Lee A. Stone and wife, Deb, from Hudson, Gene F. Stone from Portland, Maine, and Charlene S. Palmatier of South Kortright. Mr. Stone passed away in 1949.
Frances then married Herbert W. Barnhart in 1952, and moved from Malone to Delhi, where they lived their whole married life. They had four children, Mary Ann Piroha and husband, Robert (Duke), of Hamden, Edward R. Barnhart of Hamden, William H. Barnhart of Treadwell, and Nancy Gesell and husband (Brian), of Brooks, Ky. Frances has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.
Mr. Barnhart predeceased her in 1992.
Frances is survived by all of her children; as well as a brother, Edward F. Rossley and friend Burneda Ford of Bovina; and sisters, June Kowalezewski of Clearwater, Fla., and Betty Drake and husband, Robert, of Plattsburgh, Sandy Nielson of Denver, Colo.; and sister-in-law, Marge Rossley of Niceville, Fla.
She was predeceased by her infant sister, Rita Rossley; Eleanor Fravel of Pennsylvania; and brother, Robert R. Rossley of Niceville, Fla.
Frances is also survived by her husband's family, Robert Barnhart and wife, Lillian, of Bovina, Edith Platt of Milan, Jane Howard and husband, Arthur (Jay), of Delhi, Dorothy Hinkley of Bloomville, Margaret (Mrs. Sonny) Barnhart of Delhi. Frances has many nieces and nephews; and well as grandnieces and grandnephews, who will also miss her dearly.
During her years in Delhi, Frances was well-known for her seamstress and craft talents. She worked for Stewart's Department doing tailoring. She also enjoyed sewing for many people around town and was known for her ability to make just about anything.
Frances worked as a school playground aide at Delaware Academy and Central School prior to her husband's retirement after all of her children were enrolled in school. Children were Frances' love, along with traveling and sewing.
Prior to her illness making it necessary to reside at Countryside Care Center in Delhi, where she passed away, she enjoyed 10 great years at the Delhi Senior Community Center, where everyone enjoyed her baking abilities. Frances was always baking something and finding someone to enjoy them.
Frances was a member of the American Legion Post 190 Auxiliary, the St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church Rosary Society, the Ladies Home Bureau, and the Oneonta Eagles Club, to name a few.
Frances and her husband, Herb, enjoyed traveling and camping through the United States and meeting people all over. At the time of her husband's death, they had traveled in all but five of the states in the United States. They had visited Alaska and spent two months there.
In lieu of flowers, Frances' request is donations to be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society.
Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at the Hamden Pavilion, Hamden, with the Rev. Bert More officiating. Burial of the ashes will follow the services in Bovina Cemetery, Bovina.

Dear Mary Ann:
I remember your Mom making me many maternity clothes during the 50's and 60's and what a great inspiration she was for the Rosary Society, always willing to do her part and then some.
Nice memories!

Love, Barbara McKeegan, Lititz, Pa.

Mary Ann,
So sorry to hear about your Mom. I remember her fondly from the senior apt. in Delhi, where my mom(Dorothy Truesdell) also lived. She was a great gal. My thoughts are with you, I know how much I still miss my Mom and it's been 3 years.
