Frances B. Stowers Frances Bales Stowers, 84, of Bland died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011. Funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. at Highland Bland Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Blessing officiating. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m. at Old Bethel Cemetery. She was born June 18, 1927 in Montgomery County, daughter of the late James E. and May Cregger Bales. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Minor Garland Stowers; an infant son, Garland Wayne Stowers; and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Mary Stowers, and Thomas and Ginger Stowers, all of Bland; grandchildren, Tracie and Casey Havens of Rural Retreat, Mandy Jones and Patrick Harner, both of Bland, Bryan and Melanie Meade of Wytheville, and Meredith and Jeremy Ayers of Bland; great-grandchildren, Nathan Ryan Jones and Olivia Grace Havens, both of Rural Retreat, Emily Grace Ayers and Jacob David Ayers, both of Bland; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.highlandfuneralservice.com Highland Bland Funeral Home in Bland is in charge of the arrangements.
