Never new Gary but new the situation as I played football for Glenbard North in the early 70´s. I was watching the North vs Lake Park game tonight from my retirement home in Florida and brought back memories. Gary & his post injury attitude is an inspiration to all who know his story & needs to be shared by more people. Gary was atrue hero!

Many were the times that I was touched by Gary's quiet inspiration, and each person that knew him will carry a bit of his spirit within. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Steger family as they adjust to life without his presence.

One of the great inspirations of my college years was going to the Chicago Rehabilitation Institute to feed Gary on Mondays, Wedesdays and Fridays. I never found him defeated. From the night I sneaked into the ICU at Elgin to see him until this day, Gary has lifted me. Our love and prayers to his dear family.

Gary, you were a true inspiration to all of us. Your spirit, drive and an unrelenting desire to live every day to its fullest has made all of us better people just for knowing you. You'll be missed Gary but certainly not forgotten.
