Francis Bergsma Obituary
Born: July 4, 1934; in Bloomfield Township, Wis.
Died: Dec. 28, 2008; in Cathedral City, Calif.
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Francis "Bergie" Bergsma, 74, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, in hospice care in Cathedral City.
He was born July 4, 1934, to Frank A. and Bertha (Miller) Bergsma in Bloomfield Township, Walworth County, Wis. He attended Zenda Grade School and Hebron High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1955. After his discharge, he remained in California and worked as a structural steel worker and was a member of the California Iron Workers. After a serious fall left him unable to work, he moved to the Salton Sea area of California.
He is survived by two sisters, Beverly (Jack) Schmitt of Spring Grove and Kathleen (Jack) Lindblom of Kennesaw, Ga.; three brothers, Kenneth (Muriel) Bergsma of McHenry, Ronald (Barbara) Bergsma of Richmond and Dennis (Deanna) Bergsma of Aurora; 13 nieces and nephews; many cousins; his uncles, Harvey (Pat) Miller of Wayne, Pa., Nick (Marie) Dohrn of Schaumburg, and Marvin (the late Valeria) Arseneau of Horicon, Wis.; and three aunts, Virginia (the late Loren) Miller of Richmond, Louise (the late Conrad) Miller of Richmond and Rosemary (the late Louis) Bergsma of Springfield, Wis.
He was preceded by his mother in February 2001 and his father in November 2008. He was the first grandson of Peter and Philominia (Wirrig) Bergsma and Joseph and Elizabeth (Stilling) Miller.
His wishes for cremation will be honored by Cremation Services of the Desert in Palm Springs, Calif.
